"This school is apparently only equipped to deal with children who are on the highest functioning end of the spectrum, and if your kid is not there, you may have a very troubling experience during the application process, as I did. My son has moderate ASD--he has, in fact, been mainstreamed at his school--but often shuts down in new or uncomfortable social situations. I explained this to De LaSalle, and was assured that they were able to manage it. For this reason, I agreed to pull my son out of his regular school for a ""shadow day"" at De LaSalle, even though my son, as many kids on the spectrum, does not do well when his routine is disrupted. It did NOT go well. He froze, and apparently De LaSalle did not know how to handle it, because they wound up blaming him for being ""oppositional."" I explained again that he sometimes freezes in new social situations, and they offered another ""shadow day,"" but then, after I'd already got my son excited for another shadow day, they abruptly sent a rejection letter. I'm happy to say that my son is now and was, just a few months after his rejection from De LaSalle, doing just fine in public school. But, my experience with De LaSalle was one of the worst experiences we've ever had in connection with our child's special needs, and I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone."

Our daughter attended for 7 years and it saved her social, academic, and emotional life. Can't say enough good things about the school, the staff, the program, and their commitment.

After touring this school, I took my son in for a day. He stayed 3 hours. During that time he did not know where the bathroom was and I specifically told them that if he gets wet from the playground or a spill he will need to change with their HELP (does not like to wear wet clothes). He got wet on the playground and tried to change in the classroom because he did not know where to go and then he was moved to the office where he sat in his wet underwear with his wet shorts over his lap until my Husband got there and took him to the bathroom to help him get changed. The principal promised me that they would help him change and I had a change of clothes in his backpack. How hard is it to direct a child to the bathroom and help them? Now, this was not the worst part. The Principal told me that my son would absolutely NEED to be medicated if he would ever attend their school because he cannot focus or sit still. FAST FORWARD not even 5 months... My son is now in the public school system. He is in all mainstream classes. He not only sits still, he listens, he is focused with few reminders, he has friends, he receives great comments on his reports, he has straight A's, he does his homework with no issues, and at the IEP meeting I was told he acts like typical 1st grade boy! The compliments I receive about my son on a daily basis as I walk him to his class every morning are so refreshing and melt my heart. How could you decide after just 3 hours that a young child NEEDS medication? So, DeLasalle… are all of the kids medicated that go to your school? Is this what you tell all parents of children with high function autism and sensory disorders? My son does NOT need medication. He is well, he is thriving, he is learning and loving all of it. I am appalled that you said he would need medicated to attend your school! He is 6 years old! And, he is PROOF that you were very, very, very wrong! What kind of school is this? It is supposed to be for children with higher functioning disabilities... do they all NEED medication? Parents, please beware! Do not medicate your child just because this school says you should!

My son has been attending this school since its first year and they are amazing. They truly care about your child's education.
