My son just graduated new river middle , he had some great teachers and guidance and some " excellent "ones like Ms. Doolittle ( Algebra ) she is behind her students 100% ,and uses a phone app to communicate homework and news for her class , This helped a lot in a daily basis to make sure school work was completed and tests were prepare for , she also will respond to emails very fast , I wish more teachers in the future will use this way of communication . I encourage you to support your kids by been in touch with their teachers .New River has also a great diversity of classes and programs .Thank you

I have had first hand experience with the teaching and support staff. I know the commitment of Ms Wessinger to her students and her school.

I am a parent of a student who just recently graduated. She is a Magnet student and had participated actively in the ROV club, having attended many competitions and making good friends. Her teachers were engaged and committed (Reeves, O'Fallon, Humphreys, Lendick, Fahy, Doolittle, Rapoza etal). She eventually got accepted to Archbishop McCarthy but elected instead to attend NSU University School where, coincidentally, she will remain a "shark". The good: The Marine Science program is great but your kid has to remain involved and interested. The bad: The non-magnet population harbors undesirables. My child described her non-magnet classes unfavorably due student behavior. National Junior Honor society is practically non-existent. One meeting and no progress. One less academic club to promote achievement. There is one other piece that disturbed me and that is that there is no graduation ceremony and you will only find out 3 years into it. The principal described it as moving on and that in HS they will "graduate" and yet her diploma reads "Certificate of Graduation" . That the school would sponsor a dance and Busch Garden trip but no ceremony (at an educational institute? ) seems to me misaligned with the focus of education. Every student/person in their progression in life needs recognition and an opportunity to dedicate a day to their (3 year) efforts. Its a dress rehearsal for each future endeavor and this school missed it.
