This is a very typical public school in Miami Dade County. If you are happy with MDCPS, then you will likely enjoy this school. It is smaller than most schools, and there are better behaved kids, however, the building is run down, the teachers are a mixed bag, and they want no kids who lie outside of the standard kids. They are biased towards kids that come from the language program at Sunset and the only thing "unique" at this school is really the language program. The rest of the subjects are only mediocre -- very typical MDCPS programs. The iPrep Math program is probably the greatest detriment to any child in the public school system -- my son used to love math, but now absolutely hates it thanks to iPrep Math. Also, if you like hearing "well, we are the #1 middle school in FL" thrown at you every time you have to speak with someone, then this is the place you want to be!! On a positive note, at least my kid is not getting mugged at school....

I agree with the person that said that this is the perfect school for people that doesn't have a family life. They give BUSY time consuming homework. That's all. There is not a homework, where they will necessary benefit from It. It seems that they don't teach at school and expect parents to do home school for 4 to 5 hours after they come home. The worst part is that you try to do constructive suggestions to the administration and they get insulted and throw in your face that they are the top school etc. Math is really poor in this school. They need to freshen up their teachers. They look tired and careless. There are not that many options besides having to pay private school and that is why we got stuck here. The reality is that when they kids leave to high school they get to breath more.

I have read some of the comments of parents who do not seem to understand how lucky they are to have their child attend this school. Who cares if you have to drive two hours, deal with disgruntled teachers and an overload of homework? Shame on you!! You knew what you were getting into when you accepted the seat. Do you know how many parents wish their child could get into that school only to find out that you are number 252 on the waitlist? Waiting in traffic for two hours- you must not be use to South Florida traffic. Teachers that complain and moan- everyone does when they aren't satisfied with what they are getting. The kids should try harder. Homework overload- again..your child is taking honors or AP classes in middle school. What do you expect? Please parents don't accept the seat at Carver if you know your child or you can't handle it. Save it for someone who will appreciate it and deal with the good and the bad.

My child no longer attends Carver but hearing from parents whose children currently attend and their comments reminded me of my experience. My child says Carver was fine, I guess the children eventually found it normal to be called names such as stupid and idiot by the french teachers who assumed no one understood. The school is an American school with a french program, not a french school for french nationals only. And if people can stop drooling long enough pass the french accent they will realize something is very wrong. The teachers need to keep their moodiness and personal lives out of the school. It is not the students fault that they are overloaded with too many classes, it's poor planning and management. There are plenty of people who would appreciate a teaching position. I think the children suffer when they have the same disgruntled teachers 2-3yrs in a row. There is also the complete lack of discipline. When I hear a teacher or parent complain about a class overall or pointing out students whom they find disruptive, I want to ask where was the teacher and why did they lose control of their class. If a parent raises a concern, the teachers take it out on the student and intimidate the parent, that's bullying...The administration needs to pay more attention to the complaints. My child is in high school IB and not everyone in the class comes from an IB middle school or Carver. Carver is not the only choice to get into IB. Carver is rated 979th in the state. I still feel strongly enough to take the time to write this review....
