I am a student in the IB program and in the top percentile of my class. I chose to take many AP courses in addition to my IB classes. This school became a C school midway through my year. I believe this is accurate. I wish to highlight two occasions: The first was when I was taking a SAT/ACT prep class. Math lessons were completely stopped for a period and we were told to assist other regular students on an examination (the PERT?) that reflects the grade of the school. Needless to say, most of the students I tried helping were unmotivated and on their phones. On the bright side, the activity was considered extra credit and we could forego if we wanted to self-study.The second was when I was taking my IB Math class. Similarly, our math lessons were stopped but not to tutor other students; it was to help connect regular students' College board account to their SAT account ... I believe this happened for two classes. We split off into groups and headed into classes with a paper that had the instructions with visual indications to follow. There has been a massive budget cut that occurred during this year. The result was the cancellation of most afterschool tutoring (teachers get paid to stay afterschool) that were usually ran by students in the club, stricter deadlines in the IB program in an attempt to reduce numbers (I found this to be needed), the library no longer being open afterschool, stricter requirements to take the certifications exams for the Networking classes, and less funding for clubs. I believe there was a reduction in part-time workers, which included janitors. Yes, I have seen roaches in classrooms.

I am a student at gables and have noticed that the school has gone into a downward spiral. I am an IB student and have some amazing teachers but having friends in regular classes and hearing about what they do in class is so sad because there are very few regular gables teachers who actually teach and enforce school policy. The school does not inform many of its rules which sets a precedent that it is okay to break them. Maybe the students are so crazy that they have other issues to deal with first but maybe they have been having these issues because they admitted like 500 new students which causes chaos. Either way the classes are too big and the hallways are too crowded and I am glad to leave. Don't fire Mr. Costa because he is probably the only hope that this school has

Horrible across the board-/ AVOID! Look at FCAT scores with an average of 50% operating below grade level standards-- that speaks for itself. Add to that a staff that is sorely lacking and you have an experience that is substandard at best. Just signing a student out at the attendance office is a nightmare- rude inattentive employees and students run it and it can be as long as 30 minutes to finally get your child to the office. My daughter actually had a biology teacher who regularly called his students idiots and an English teacher who was absolutely horrible to students as well. It warrants stating that my daughter is a good student and never on the receiving end of this nonsense but was appalled nonetheless. We pulled her after one year at CGSH and it was definitely the right decision. Again, if possible, AVOID!

The are some good teachers but way too many students. There are lots of resources for the IB program but the rest of the students, especially the non achievers are neglected. Even if it is a magnet IB school, all students need to be challenged. Another regular non charter high school needs to open in the area so there will be less students at CGHS. Also, stressing good English grammar will help the students later on in college, more than speaking Spanish. One teacher even teaches part of the class in Spanish. even though it is not a bilingual class.
