Love this school! There is more to a school than test scores!!! Schools with high tests scores tend to put an emphasis on the tests rather than the child. Other schools with high scores often scare the kids into drill and practice activities. This is not how a child learns best. Meaningful, engaging activities creates a child who will be excited to go to school and a lifetime learner. My son has so much to look forward to when he goes to school. This makes getting ready for school each day so much easier. He always has something to work towards and to be excited about!!

One word, family. Rowlett Academy is a place where every student, parent, faculty member, and community member truly embraces that philosophy. It is a home strengthened by our diversity where everyone has a voice and no one is excluded. I’ve personally had the good fortune of sending both of my children to Rowlett, one who graduated 3 years ago while the school was still managed by the district and one who currently attends 2nd grade. The school has had enormous impact on our children both inside and outside the classroom. Their confidence has skyrocketed in a place where every student is made to feel safe not just physically, but in taking risks and embracing failure as a learning opportunity. Our oldest daughter was just accepted into the International Baccalaureate program and attributes much of her success to her foundation gained at Rowlett. Our youngest started off as shy, ultra-focused kid who just needed to loosen up. She is now singing solos for various school events such as Veteran’s Day, Arts Fest, and even led a tour for the Franklin-Covey Lighthouse evaluation team! The administration sets the tone with strong leadership, accountability, yet compassion and recruits the best and brightest teachers who enthusiastically inspire each student to reach their full potential. As a parent, I have never seen a more energized parent base across the board. Our Rowlett Family Association (PTA) has consistently raised over $200K a year to invest in the amazing, free enrichment programs that make this school so unique and special. These programs have only expanded since becoming a public charter as WE are able to invest and allocate funds into the programs we want such as violin, foreign language, Kid’s Bank, TSA, Odyssey of the Mind, dance and dozens of others. The school fosters creative and critical thinking skills fielding amazing TSA and OM teams that have advanced to World competitions year after year. We are also excited about the expansion of Rowlett Academy MS planned for the 2017 school year. The transition to MS is always a scary one for both students and parents and it’s great knowing that our daughter will be able to continue with the same high quality leadership, values and education we’ve come to love about Rowlett. But don’t just take my word for it…schedule a tour and come join our Rowlett family. I know you'll feel right at home...

As our first year at Rowlett comes to a close, I feel I have had enough experience with the school to post a review. My daughter has had such a wonderful experience this year, something I wish for all kindergarteners. People often ask me why we go to a school 25 minutes away when we have A rated schools right in our neighborhood. Simply put, when you combine great teachers/administration with great programs and children/families from all walks of life a little bit of magic happens. Rowlett is focussed on the whole child and not just concerned about teaching to a test. They try to raise the bar in many ways - everything from the wide array of after school enrichments (tap, ballet, violin, soccer, drawing, too many to list) to the dual language program (Spanish 2x week) to Kids Bank run by students to the numerous performance opportunities for every student. My advice - check it out, take a tour and see for yourself :-)
