Wakelee School Ratings & Reviews

Wakelee was just named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. They are 1 of only 4 schools in CT to receive this recognition. Wolcott has one of the absolute best school districts in Connecticut.

Most teacher in this school is excellent. The special education team works diligently to identify and provide services for students who need it. The Extra-curricular activities are appropriate for this age group. The building and technology are in need of updating however, the teachers compensate for those inequalities.

Bullying can be a problem not addressed by the principle when reported by a child. No school programs like clubs or music groups for K through third. The teachers are the glue that hold this school together. If it wasn't for the teachers that obviously care about our children, i would be more discouraged in Wakelee. Food in the cafeteria could be healthier. Is the school nurse trained to handle emergencies?

Terrible!!!! Principal ( Nagashima) plays favorites with students and parents. If you and your child are not liked by him he will play with his cell phone during PPT meetings and only look up at you to insult your child. He will ignore your child during school hours and punish your child for misbehaving, while his "favorites" get away with eveything. Nothing is done about excessive teasing, teachers are not compassionate to special needs children. Other parents are "cliquey" and exclude lower income families from school functions. School needs an updated curriculum and new administration. In my daughters 5 years of school I have never encountered such an uncaring environment. If I could rate this school a zero I would. HORRIBLE 10 months at this school and the middle school. Both of my kids are seeing therapists due to the Wolcott public schools.

The school needs an updated curriculum, and it's time to spend some money, Wolcott. There's a need for more computer oriented classes, my son gets bored with the repetitiveness of the homework and instruction. I'm not sure about the third elementary school, but one school in town has been updated with lots of amenities. It's not fair for one school to get all the improvements and leave the others behind. Just a bit clicky atmosphere also, it's community based, but the school needs to be more integrative with the kids. The teachers are very good, but I feel they "miss the mark" with those who aren't conforming to the standards, and that's a sign of a great school. Teaching to the test, conforming to requirements isn't the only angle to take.
