I suppose it is possible for someone to have a worse experience in high school but mine was near the bottom of the scale. I recall being humiliated in the dining hall by the head of the table (one of the teachers) who yelled at me for picking up chicken and eating it with my hands. I was also mortified at being placed on blue card for poor grades. I was required to bring the blue card to every class and have the teacher sign the card as well as my parents. The administration and teachers at the time seemed to have no issue denouncing and humiliating students in front of their peers. I’m sure many of this would be considered politically incorrect in today’s day and age but I doubt much is changed in terms of the snobby exclusivistic behavior of the student body at large.

Some teachers excellent, but many are mediocre. It becomes a very small and clique-y pond very quickly. Facility is so-so compared with other private schools. College advising is AWFUL; my adviser could not answer any of my basic questions. KO heavily recruits kids from China who pay full tuition, but barely know English. I took 10 courses at local colleges while still in high school, and this really highlighted mediocrity in classes offered at KO. Senior Eng Symposium is a joke; last year author was a no show. This year's author gave one word "yes" or "no" answers as she obviously didn't want to be at KO. This is a good school if you are an athlete that is not a scholar and want to go to a good college for football, etc. Not so good if you are a real scholar. Save $$ and go to your public high school and take courses at CCSU, UCONN, Trinity, and UHA - they offer FREE courses to high school students!! I was accepted at ivy colleges b/c I took charge of my education and left KO.

Kingswood Oxford School; The faculty, staff and administration at KO are experts in teaching students how to reach their fullest potential as an individual and a student while simultaneously teaching them the value of being an integral part of a community. The day school atmosphere allows families to stay involved and in touch while allowing their children to expand their horizons and grow as students and people outside the confines of their own town.

Kingswood Oxford is an excellent school. My son attended a catholic school prior to going there. Although the educational instruction at the catholic school was good, the rigidity and lack of personal support for the children were negatives. At Kingswood Oxford the concept of a learning community is exemplified at it's highest. My son thrived at Kingswood Oxford and became a good athlete as well. Their insistence on participating in sports is a positive and helps to teach kids how to work with others in teams effectively. It complements the rigorous educational requirements and helps to mold the complete student. As someone already mentioned, students do not have to participate in competitive sports. The school has completed the building of a new science center are committed to providing the best science and math training available.
