I have 2 children in the school system, one in 6th and one in 3rd. I felt like our experience with teachers and Principal was dramatically better at HHES, over CES. Teachers give homework based on the students individual level, rather than a blanket level for the whole class- such as vocabulary or reading and in many cases, math too. The teachers were great at assessing student's needs to keep them appropriately challenged. Teachers work hard to know their kids. Front office staff are friendly and helpful. Hot lunch is okay, although I am not a believer in "breakfast for lunch" or saying nachos and cheese is lunch. Mrs Diamond is wonderful, and does a great job maintaining a balance of trusting those in authority around her, as well as staying connected with kids and personally supporting parents and children. We recently move to a nearby town and noticed the dramatic difference (step down). Brookfield continues to always look for how they can make it better, although politics seems to affect what the school will receive for a budget each voting year. They are working to update buildings, while the continue to provide a great education for kids. I hope they follow through with the plan to put 5th grade back in elementary school. I will concur with others, if your child needs PT, OT or other services they can be over looked for ignored if it' not having a negative affect on the teacher. But there are plenty of paras assigned to children with significant special needs and all of the ones I observed were patient and kind. Kids in general are well behaved which certainly helps the classroom environment. I would love to see a more creative, encouraging art teacher, but I loved watching how teachers get kids excited about science, athletes, and other programs. The school and town work hand in hand to offer a ton of after school activities like cooking classes, watercolor painting, legos, magic tricks, Zumba and more, and for very affordable prices.

We have lived in Brookfield for 15 years. Wonderful and caring teachers. If you have a child in special education, you need to watch! They simply ignore doctor evaluations and cut back on services that will come back to haunt them. They do not identify struggling readers in the early years which is very costly in the long run.

If you want to know just how bad this school is, attend a Board of Education/Board of Finance meeting. This school is literally falling apart. Schedule a visit and check out the bathrooms. Walk down the halls and look at all the broken floor tiles. Brookfield's town hall is beautiful while our children are being educated in unheated "portables" trailers that were brought in as a "temporary" solution back in the 80's....because the town's priorities are screwed up and the district hasn't been responsible with its money. Terrible, TERRIBLE special education program!!! The people in charge of identifying children's special needs only see what they want to see. All IEP decisions are predetermined and entirely budget-driven. Parents' concerns and concerns of outside professional evaluators are ignored. And even when teachers attempt to speak up for children with disabilities, the district's special ed director is right there to sway the meeting and get the teachers to change their answers. And when you complain about it, the district says "so...sue us" knowing full well that an $100,000 due process hearing is cost prohibitive for 99% of families.

My overall experience with this school is wonderful. The teachers are caring and they take the time to speak with you should you have concerns or questions. The principal and vice principal make visits to the classrooms and stop to speak with you as you pass them in the hallway. I am a very happy parent. My child is very happy with his teachers and classsmates. husband and I moved to Brookfield specifically for the school system. It was the best move we've ever made! Love Brookfield!
