Runyon Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

The Littleton School District is a nightmare. I guess it's great if you live a life like the 1950s and the mother is at home to cater to the whims of the school board's odd scheduling, but it's not realistic in today's world. Runyon has some bright students thanks to great parents, but the administration has an iron grip on the staff. They seem more focused on getting high rankings than they do with creating learners.

The school looks great from the outside and the teachers really do care. The problem is that they've created a way too perfect world that your kids can't be kids there. They have snack police (telling YOUR kids they can't have the snack YOU sent because it's not to their standards), kids get into trouble for laughing on the bus (does that really constitute a call and letter from the principal??), and my kids are stressed out all the time because of these crazy standards they have to live up to. We were new at this school this year. At our old school, we've never, ever had an issue with our children (in the gifted program, citizenship awards AND perfect attendance). We have pretty high standards ourselves, but this is ridiculous.

We moved to this area a couple of years ago, and we made sure we were in this school based on the reviews on sites like this. While the school rates well on standardized tests it fails in many other areas. Possibly because the school does so well academically (Which I now contribute to the high number of exceptional parents and not the administration) the school gets good ratings. But the school has some underlying issues that few will challenge. One is the boy who cries wolf syndrome. The teachers and principal constantly send home discipline reports, but at the same time send home very few academic status reports. We know when our kid laughs too loud in class, but we rarely know how well sheΓÇÖs doing academically. On top of that we have received discipline reports for the wrong child more than once. These two things make use disregard most discipline reports sent home from the school. On the surface this school seems excellent, and itΓÇÖs not bad, but there is a tight grip of control on the students and the parents that most here seem afraid to push against. ItΓÇÖs odd. Maybe the kool-aid they are drinking is keeping the parents from seeing through the haze of false perfection. Maybe itΓÇÖs the entire Littleton district that thinks itΓÇÖs fine to start late and end early every time the wind shifts? Who knows, but something is really odd here.

The teachers are wonderful at Runyon! I feel that they truly care about the kids and are encouraged to be well rounded individuals. Couldn't be happier with my children's elementary education!

Principal, dean of students and homeroom staff are complacent and seem to believe they are a protected class of people who are not obligated to answer questions or have any accountability for their performance. My 2e ADD student's self esteem and interest in learning was damaged by this staff.Requests to opt out were not honored, and there was no partnering.
