This school is not safe. There is plenty of bullying going on and nothing ever happens. The principal is more worried about money than he is about the kids. If you are a smart kid you do well and will excel but if you have disabilities you are lost in the shuffle. I have a second grader who can't read or write or add or subtract, barely recognizes letters and they say he is doing well. He gets so discouraged and has no interest at all. And we wonder why the kids that are treated this way do the things they do. As parents we try to help them but in turn we get no help from the school system.. Not every child learns the same and not every public school is the perfect fit for every child. Until this school realizes that they will fail with these kids.

This school is not safe. The Director of Transportation and Maintenance has allowed what was once a safe school become a mockery. The bathrooms are horribly unclean. The administration has only concerns for their career, not for any difficulties children may have. I am also concerned in the lack of many teachers' abilities to deal with accelerated children who are bored - instead of labeling them ADD. There are a few exceptions to this rule. There is a very high incidence of bullying at this district which is never truly addressed by the administration. The preschool and kindergarten teachers are treated with little to no respect for the rigor their jobs require. The place is a filthy mess. I am happy to leave this school and quit my job for homeschooling as it it still the best option in Gunnison for a quality, safe education. Your tax dollars are lost here. Good for you, who voted for 2B, this may be the only way the Superintendent doesn't have to declare the school bankrupt. The school offers ONE foreign language but is going to build a cosmetology school with tax payers' voted dollars. Many of the best educators are leaving due to Superintendent Tredway's greedy, closed minded policies. I feel sorry for the children and the quality faculty that is there. I only give 2 stars for the good teachers and the highly quality staff in the kitchen

My son was in an accelerated math program until he missed two days due to illness, made up the work, and was still kicked out of that class due to "excessive"absences. My son has also dealt with bullying issues by students AND teachers over the last two years, none of which has ever been addressed or corrected by the principal. Due to the incidents, my son now hates school and has begged me on a daily basis to home-school. Certain teachers here will not allow children to use the restroom at times, causing them the embarrassment of having an accident in the classroom. My son becomes bored with tasks and requires challenge; the teachers have refused numerous times to accommodate his learning style and needs, which causes him to act out in a negative manner during class time. My son was doing better in his previous school where he had homework in kindergarten, as well as second grade-level work to accomplish and he did better in school at that time. We (my son and I) are excited to be moving back to that standard of learning. Homeschooling in Gunnison is the best option for your child.

Common practice of not letting children use the bathroom. Yet, they won't talk about this and have no accountability for their treatment of students. Teachers and administration will not listen to parents concerns at all. Parents are treated as outsiders. They never told me that my child tested a whole grade level above. I received that info. after enrolling my child in an different school.
