Greenwood Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

The school has gone down hill and there are real reasons the school's rankings have declined. Most of the teachers are excellent but the administration provides no empowerment or support for them. They arenΓÇÖt encouraged to send discipline problems to principal's office and it can be very disruptive to the learning environment for the good kids. Maybe if the school wasn't afraid to suspend students who are difficult so the other students can actually learn, the test scores and student progress would rebound.ThereΓÇÖs been an overall disintegration in the sense of community as well. Greenwood used to be a place that was strongly supported by parents both in fundraising and volunteer activity and that has eroded over the past few years. I think this is because of the frustration with nothing being handled as it should be. I will honestly be glad when we are done.

Greenwood is honestly a mixed experience. It's relatively small, but that means it's also clique-ish, both among the kids and the parents. It's affluent, which means strong support for fundraising, but also means the school caters to the wealthier parents, and that some kids learn early to flaunt brand names and vacation plans. Some teachers are great, and others clearly play favorites and indulge in petty gossip. The principal is nice and tries hard, but the sense is he is more concerned with impressing the district higher-ups than handling issues at the school.

As good as a public school can be. Good teachers, small class sizes, good enrollment population, and strong open enrollment students.

Our daughter attended Greenwood Elementary School from 1981 to 1986. The school was wonderful and the teachers and principal were excellent. We believe that her earlier training at Greenwood was a great help in all her future educational efforts. She graduated from UC Davis School of Medicine and is currently a pediatric cardiologist at Oregon Health Science University. A long way from Greenwood but a learning experience she still talks about.

Due to my job my kid has studied in many schools over the last few years and we felt that this school is the best of all. Outstanding teacher who goes beyond the call of duty. Very affectionate principal and staff. My kid really enjoyed studying in this school.
