Kyffin Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

We love Kyffin! We have had wonderful teachers and a great experience in the community. I feel like the teachers are supported by the administration and the kids are supported by the teachers. There is a wonderful PTA with great opportunities to be involved. The parents in this community can be a little intense - lots of tiger moms and helicopter parents. But that is par for the course these days and especially with the GT program in the school. It is a battle to keep kids being kids but the schools stronger teachers seem to be able to accomplish this. A wonderful and well rounded neighborhood school.

I have had 2 kids graduate from Kyffin, and my third is in fourth grade. So, I've had a child here for over 8 years. I have been very pleased. The older two both went on to very challenging programs and have done well. Both were in mainstream classes, and later some advanced GT math classes. My daughter is taking algebra in 7th grade and doing great. My youngest is in the GT program, which has its pros/cons. Overall, he is doing great.I have been especially pleased to see the mixing of GT and non-GT, that I think was lacking in the past. I think the school is a welcoming place.Of the dozens of teachers my kids have had, I have been displeased with one or two (one of whom was forced out), and ecstatic about more than a dozen of them. They seem to do a good job of attracting very qualified teachers.

In my experience, this has been an outstanding school for my kids. Thank you teachers, staff, and parent volunteers who help nurture and grow great students.

Don't go here!!! In the middle of open enrollment, I have to speak up! The administration lacks competence to lead the school and the attitude of the staff shows it. We came to Kyffin thinking how lucky we were to have gotten into a good school in a good neighborhood. Let me just say anything that can go wrong went wrong! The bullying, the attitude between GT and GE, the lack of teacher support. If they think building a new playground is going to help then they are in a more trouble then I give them credit for. Run, don't walk, run from this school. Kyffin is lucky this site forces me to choose at least one star.

My child just transitioned from Kyffin elementary to middle school and it was a real eye opener. Kyffin did absolutely nothing to prepare kids for the transition to middle school. Although they cover the required curriculum, they really don't assign grades based on merit and the kids never develop good study habits. This is a real disservice to kids who wind up in a high performing middle school! There are many days when kids just goof off...early release days are a waste of time, days that have assemblies or parties are wasted, and many days have three recesses! When are they supposed to be learning anything? Kids here are quite disrespectful and my child constantly complained about all the profanity on the playground and unruly bully behavior that went unpunished in class and throughout the school. I know plenty of parents who complained about bullying with no results. The administration seems weak and the teachers follow the lead. We are happy to have moved on from here.
