The staff and environment are outstanding and focused on the children, not just the academic standards required to accomplish. TheyΓÇÖre creating wonderful humans who are good StewartΓÇÖs of our environment and the people who live in it. IΓÇÖm so incredibly grateful.

This school has been a huge disappointment. I like the idea behind the character traits but unfortunately the administration and staff don't seem to follow it. My children have witnessed a number of situations involving bullying (with violence) and very little punishment or repercussions to deter the behavior. As a result the behavior continues and certain kids continue to be bullied and targeted. In the past 5 years that we have been at this school the teacher turnover rate has also been disappointing. On the surface the school does a great job of "selling" the school to prospective families; methods of teaching that were mentioned at the info meetings never materialized. The report cards don't have actual grades and don't provide much valuable information as to how your kid is actually doing. I have noticed there is minimal grading and correcting of work and as a result certain students will do the bare minimum because of it. How are kids supposed to learn if they don't have their mistakes pointed out to them and made to correct them? Classroom behavior is poorly managed and disruptive and interferes with learning. My children have grown emotionally thanks to the voyages but academically they didn't get much out of it.

We have been part of the Renaissance Community for 8 years now. I have 3 kids that have moved on to traditional middle school and high school. They have all done exceptionally well, I believe, with the foundation and culture instilled from their elementary school--inclusiveness, self-reflection, stretching themselves to try and do hard things, a strong sense of character and community, an incredible understanding and doing of Service for others. Renaissance is a balance of interdisciplinary connections inside and outside of the classroom and in the Great Outdoors. Kids experience safe, age-appropriate challenging activities, that they will draw from and use as anchors for years to come in their lives. Perseverance. Kids do not do things once and get a pass/fail or end up with a grade, and then ultimately a label for themselves. Do you remember the smart kids in school? The dumb kids? We do not celebrate grades, so much as Character. If you like to see plenty of rigorous homework, and graded papers, you won't enjoy Renaissance. This is NOT a school that preps kids to pass "the test." This is far from an academy-type experience. Children are celebrated as scientist, artists, writers, and mathematicians, who value collaboration with peers, their own creativity and their place inside every opening and closing circle with their crew. I could go on and on, but I won't. Go visit--see for yourself! You're invited! My kids never wanted to miss a day at Renaissance. "Kids are kids" everywhere you go, but these kids also know their sense of importance in this world. How cool is that?!
