Walter F. Dexter Middle School Ratings & Reviews

The teachers at this school have always been very supportive and willing to go that extra mile for my child. They are caring, strict, and keep my daughter accountable. She's gained more confidence in her abilities and I have seen her blossom. She looks forward to going to school and it's all due to the 6th grade teachers/staff. Thank you for your support.

In my daughter's words, it is not great, it is AWESOME. My daughter will be starting her second year. I was extremely nervous about sending her to this school last year, yet it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made for her and her future. I believe that success in a school takes great leadership, caring administrators and staff, excellent teachers and parent involvement. Dexter has all of these things and more. The teachers are caring, approachable innovative and dedicated to helping their students succeed. It was evident throughout the whole year. I am truly looking forward to my daughter starting her second year. Go Hornets!

After reading some the previous post, it appears to me that Dexter is not considered a top school due to experience and the last administration. My daughter just graduated from Dexter (2016) and it was the best year she has experienced, as well I. Being a parent that likes to partake in a lot of school events, it was apparent that her 8th grade year was great. Why? New principal (Dr. Allard) and a new philosophy about how to make the school a better, interactive, and cohesive environment for students and teachers. The teachers and faculty were incredible. Being involved in what Dexter was up to by following their social media accounts and simply BY ASKING made all the difference. The school lacks the credit is deserves, and it’s about time parents start viewing things for how they are now, and not how it was then. This coming year, my son will be entering 6th grade, and he cannot be more ecstatic. My daughter was one of seven students recognized for their top academic achievements. Her success would not have been possible if it were not for the Dexter teachers and Dr Allard. He starts prepping students for academic achievement early on. Allow Dexter to be part of your kid's academic path and you will also have a "great" view of Walter Dexter Middle School. GO HORNETS!!!

This is one horrible school to put any child in. How this school has a 3 star rating amazes me!!! The on going bullying and fighting that goes on here is disgusting! When you drop your child off at school you should think it's a safe place but it's far from it here at this school. They know of certain bully's that attend their school yet do not expell them or drop them from their school. It seems as if they are ok with this on going bad behavior. I had an issue regarding certain 7th grade girls bullying my daughter. When I spoke with the councilor she already knew who these girls were! Really!!! I also let her know about the whole gang recruiting thing that was being done and for some crazy reason these girls are still attending this school! Another occasion occured as I'm pulling up to pick my daughter up from school I see a huge crowd gathering at the park. Of course boys fighting while the crossing guard does absolutely nothing about it! Doesn't even bother to call the Principal or the authorities! This school by far is a thumbs down for me and my Child will NOT be attending 8th grade next year!!! So disappointed!! Your district and school should be ashamed!!!

The hostile work environment has caused too many great teachers to leave this school. The constant turnover has created inconsistent policies and a lack of true committment among the staff. The leadership is sadly lacking with bullying and intimidation her signature style. I too am surprised and saddened that the district has done nothing to remedy the situation.
