I can't say enough positive things about Broadoaks. If I had more children, without a doubt, I would again send them to Broadoaks. The teachers are wonderful and understanding. They go the extra mile to ensure the child comprehends the task. I always felt good...great!!!... as i left my children in class. The homework is a lot but i feel that helped my daughter prepare (or lay the foundation) for her to do well in high school. I would not consider any other school but Broadoaks. I would have loved for it to have continued on thru to the high school years.

Both my children have attended this school since age 2.5 up to Jr. High. You simply can't compare the type of personalized, current best practice methods applied here. There is a tremendous amount of respect shown by the teachers to the children and the children to each other. The teachers all bring their enthusiasm and zest for knowledge everyday and manage to instill that in each child. My 20 yr. old (current zoology major college student) attributes her continuing love of science to the happy elementary school days spent always creating and many self directed learning experiences at this school. Never rote lessons at this school. Innovative lessons with teaching teams, highly educated teachers with a passion for teaching. Not recommended for parents that desire rigid structure.

There are many things to be said about Broadoaks, both good and bad. The school director is great and has a great educational philosophy, but, the school is not primarily run by her. The philosophy behind the teaching approach is great! It is aimed to teach children to learn in a more dynamic and idepedent way. But the people NOW running Broadoaks lack many qualities the school gained such a great reputation for. Many of the teachers are very cold and unsympathetic to the children. The teachers seem to have a sense of entitlement and refuse to be commonly decent at times. Another thing is the students who now attend Broadoak are a different group of humans. The school first began with students who were bright and exceptional from great families. Now, most of the kids are spoiled brats who like to act as bullies and really don't seem to have any special quality aside from well off parents. My niece went through this school and did great! So it saddens me to see how it is changing into an overrated daycare for yuppie parents. I hope the director relizes the school is losing its unique greatness soon. It would be sad to see the school overrun by bored and snooty parents.

We have a child who started Broadoaks in 5th grade is now in 8th grade. We also have a child who started the preschool program last year. The quality of the teaching is unbelievable. The teachers have been there a long time which shows how they like being there and feel supported by administration. In parent teacher conferences, I can tell that these teachers really know my kids- they aren't just saying standard lines. My younger daughter had a tough transition to school but the teachers were so calm and experienced- you could tell there was nothing she was going to do that they hadn't seen before. My older daughter is learning not only Spanish but also Chinese- the school has a teacher through Whittier College's Fulbright scholarship program. She loves it and wants to keep taking it in high school. They do have a policy that you can't celebate any holidays- even Halloween- in school which I found dismaying. However, my kids are so happy there even without those special occiasions. In preschool, every kid has one day a week where they are the "focus child" and my daughter celebrates every week when its her day. We moved from another state and I'm so lucky we found this school!

When my family first moved to Whittier, we did a lot of research to find the best school for our son. I was a little hesitant on Broadoaks because the teaching style is not the traditional way of teaching. I am now so very happy that we choose Broadoaks for my son. It's a great school. He has grown so much and really enjoy schools. The teachers are amazing. They love what they do and it shows in their teachings and attitude. The staff is so supportive. The ratio between students and teachers is the best! My son is in Kinder and there are 4 teachers to 32 kids! I look forward to our many years at Broadoaks.
