The school's rep of being a good public school in the area depends upon your view. There is a lot of AP classes offered..too many as the pressures mount up on students to take them. They WORK you harder, not smarter at this school. My student had all honors courses and teachers piled homework on. Where 20ish problems in Geometry would suffice, here comes 48. In English, for one exam, the students were required to know the title of each chapter of the novel- Why in the world is that necessary? For band, you cannot just play an instrument, you are required to have service hours. On top of that, you are required to go see several concerts, but it doesn't stop there. It is not enough to see concerts, then you MUST write a 2 page paper about the concert. Again, why? Most band students are smart and probably taking honors or AP classes.. so just keep piling on the busy work. Teachers are unimpressive and some are lazy and the freshman Geometry teacher liked to talk about his personal life instead of teaching subject matter. We went to a private school as matters would only get worse.

I used to think westlake High School was going to be a good school to learn and advance in my academics. The school only teaches on learning style, and only caters to one political demographic. If you learn too fast for your class, the teachers treats you unfairly and treats you less than the other stidents. Once certain teachers find out that you are conservative, they treat you unfairly. They will ignore you, or grade open assignments unfairly. I strongly suggest that any parents that want their conservative student to feel safe, so not send their child here.

I attend westlake high and I would highly recommend not going there.I am currently being cyber bullied, and most of my friends that go to Thousand Oaks high say it's much, much better .I would definetly recommend Thousand Oaks high or Moorpark Highschool.Although westlakes scores are high ,there are so many other highschools around westlake/Thousand Oaks area that have similar scores. If you are not a football player or hard core into some type of sport ,there is a much higher chance of being bullied ,or getting into drugs .I would love to move schools ,the academics here are not taught well ,all the teachers and staff care about are sports .Westlake would be a good school if all you cared about was sports ,and you have a lot of money (practically rich ).My parents thought this was be the best school but trust me ,Thousand Oaks or Moorpark are the schools I would want to attend .

Daughter very unhappy with this school. Poor attitude of Office staff. Always rude to daughter. School cares more about the donations/money it receives from affluent student families than the psychological/learning welfare of the student. The affluent family that donates large sums to the school more often than not favors that student whether student is best choice, qualified, or competent. Apathy/poor attitude among some teachers. Math Dept. teachers especially poor teaching skills! A lot of students very materialistic, judgmental and unfriendly. Too much to say, but will end here.

There's nothing extraordinary about this school. It is true that I have found many of my AP teachers to be very helpful and productive when it comes to doing their jobs, and the school's high test scores reflect the effort made with students. With that said, some AP teachers and too many CP teachers don't do their jobs and inflate grades. For AP students like me, there are plenty of AP class options, but, considering the widespread affluence of this community and school, there should undoubtedly be more foreign-language-based selections, including Latin and AP Spanish Literature, especially provided the usefulness of long-term Latin and considering that this area has a largely Spanish background. In regards to WHS extracurriculars, there are the usual clubs and opportunities that most public schools offer, but there is simply this and not much else. One of the more upsetting parts of this school is the lack of action. The ASG body has done little beyond occasional fundraising that draws minimal attention because it's nothing new, interesting, enjoyable, or special. A lot of schools now have their own weekly television broadcasts. WHS is WAY behind on this.
