Love it. The teachers and kids are wonderful

We are starting our second year at Coeur d'Alene. I've been impressed by the close knit sense of community at this school. Principal Jenkins knows all the families and greets the children by name (which is impressive considering how many kids he has to remember)! The parents help out at the school when they can, either with time or money, and we are all happy to contribute to the education and health of our kids. It takes a village!Perhaps the best perk here is the free play time for the kids. When you drop off your child in the morning, she can run and play with her friends on the playground for a few minutes before the bell rings. Parents are chatting, kids are getting the wiggles out, teachers are preparing for the day. They have several recess breaks during the day, several vegetable and flower gardens to tend to, a butterfly garden, a nice library to visit, and they still have PE and music classes. My hope is that our tax money will someday go back to the public schools instead of being diluted by charter schools. Our public schools would be even more successful, and therefore our children more successful, if the financial resources were available to pay for teachers aids, maintenance staff, equipment, and manpower to decrease class sizes. I believe it is better to have superlative, well funded public schools rather than a multitude of mediocre partially funded public and charter schools. I wonder what Thomas Jefferson would say?

10/10. I was not excited to send my child to an LAUSD school, then we enrolled at CDA and very quickly I realized how wrong I was. Each day I left my daughter there with piece of mind that she was being well cared for in a safe environment, with teachers who truly and genuinely care, and a Principal who is completely involved in daily school life with each child’s best interest in mind. A gem of a school with a team of teachers who should be recognized for their work, from where I am, I see them going above and beyond to make this school something to be proud of. thank you.

Fantastic school with a highly-skilled administrator at the helm. I'm continually impressed with Mr. Jenkin's running of the school. He does what he says he'll do. I send an email, even about a tiny matter, and I get a timely response. The teachers are smart and dedicated and the parent involvement is strong. We've had an outstanding experience and now that my son is graduating I'm going to miss the trust, comfort and good times we've had.

My first son started Kindergarten at CDA in Fall 2009, the same year Principal Jenkins came in to the school. We had no real expectations (just the typical bundle of nerves for parents who assumed their child was the cutest and brightest and greatest) though we had moved to our neighborhood prior to his birth to be part of this small public school with a good reputation. Now, 9 years later, my second son is about to commence in a couple months. And my heartstrings are being tugged. HARD.Because what we experienced over this impactful chapter in our lives was more that we ever could have expected. More than we ever could have dreamed. We never could have expected a Principal who was dressed to the 9's everyday, remembering the names of every new child, their siblings, and their parents. Nor could we have ever expected a weekly student assembly where parents actually stick around to hear his messages of inspiration, challenge, drive, and support. How could we ever have dreamed of a school that is a shining example of, and promotes, diversity, equality, encouragement, love, courage. We had no idea we would be able to receive a well-rounded and challenging curriculum in a small, private-school-feeling environment while enjoying the benefits and balance of programs sadly not available at other public schools: Booster-Club sponsored activities like PE, library, music, art, dance, gardening. I have kids who once hated reading who have now been inspired by their incredible teachers to enjoy curling up with a book. I have kids who have healthy competition with their friends year round over the once-a-year jog-a-thon or their times clocked in the mile race. I have life-long friends in the amazing parent posse, many of whom dedicate their time to make THE most fun and creative fundraiser parties in town. (No joke!) Principal Jenkins has created an environment that has grown to capacity. If you're fortunate enough to live in this district, you've already won the elementary school jackpot. The word is out - Coeur d'Alene is the best of the best and, even after a wordy review, Im left speechless with the game-changing education our family has had the privilege to experience. We are forever grateful to Principal Jenkins, every single teacher we have had, the staff, and the families. Thank you, CDA! xoxo ~Robin Walpert
