My son is a senior and we have nothing but great things to say about the school, especially compared to others in the area. The school emphasizes working on improving and has brought my son from mediocre to straight A including 3 AP classes. Plus a lot of emphasis on after-school programs such as robotics. I think the school does extremely well preparing kids for college/university.

This school does deserve some of the reputation it gets. Obviously every high school has drug issues- I have friends who go to top public schools like Gunn and Monta Vista, and those schools have as well. However I doubt the problem is as widespread as it is in Fremont. I'm pretty sure a guy was a little high in one of my classes- ironically during anti-drug unit in freshman year- obviously this warning is often too late. As long as you don't "hang with the wrong crowd" drug use and violence aren't as frequent as rumors say. Another issue is that students here have a "Cs are good, Bs are great!" mentality, which can make it hard to get straight As. Teachers of "regular" classes are hit and miss, with some being good and many being unhelpful; out of these unhelpful teachers, some are well-meaning but clueless, some only like students who are more clueless than they are, and some just don't like kids (AVOID THEATRE). Generally, it isn't hard to get a good grade in these classes. However, once you get to more advanced Honors and AP classes, the teachers are much better and they seem to actually understand their subject and care about their students; the classes are truly challenging.

Definitely not a school that I would recommend to someone with high standards. More than half the students in my regular classes were not motivated to succeed in school and even people in the AP and honors classes seemed like they weren't fit for those types of classes. Majority of the clubs I've joined were lackluster and had no sense of purpose, so I eventually stopped participating in all of them during my junior year. The teachers I've had were excellent, but I did hear some of my peers complain about theirs, so no guarantees that you'll get good teachers. From my experience, this would be an ideal school for a student who just wants to have some fun and doesn't really care about getting As in their classes. Overall, I would say the teachers were better than the students overall.

I am a former Fremont student and I have to say that although Fremont may seem nice on the outside, it's terrible. My assistant principal was one of the rudest people I've ever met. My guidance counselor was clueless and apparently didn't understand the meaning of the word 'confidential'. All of the teachers are either dense or they're tearing out their hair in frustration. Most of the staff is solely focused on helping students whose first language isn't English, and it seems like even they can't even do that right. I couldn't get out of that school fast enough.
