As a staff member at Santa Cruz High, gotta say I am darn proud to work at such a terrific school. One of the outstanding features of SCHS is the diversity of its student body: tall-short, fat-skinny, rich-poor, AP students-special ed students, black, Hispanic, Asian, white, gay, straight, athletic, studious, foreign exchange or home grown. Every single one of the students is appreciated and honored by all the dedicated staff. Check out the personal planning workshops, college rep visits, career panel presentations, ROP classes, 17 AP classes, sports program, Math Academy, Excel schedule, Barrios Unidos, homework club, the choir, the band, the theater, ceramics, yoga, Link Crew, the counseling office, the clubs, and the strawberry/banana smoothies in the cafeteria! Great school, great staff, outstanding students.

As a parent and active community member I continue to be amazed at the level of creativity offer by staff in spite of an economically challenged state of CA education. That said the diversity of the student body, quality of teachers, and a college town vibe set this campus off from Harbor High. Walkable campus off of the downtown historic district enables my children a little more freedom

I've only had a child here for less than a year, some of the teachers are great, some not so great (PE teacher). Fortunately if the teacher is not so great you only have to put up with them for a semester. We are really enjoying the Excel scheduling.

I sent 2 children to Soquel High and pulled them out because it was horrible for them (teachers, administration, and socially). My second child I sent to Santa Cruz High this year and she is thriving: straight A's, making friends, participating in the music program. Counselling staff is helpful, teachers seem happy to be there. They even know who my child is! Not only that, they are encouraging her to pursue her areas of strengths. I'm sending my third child here next fall.

Santa Cruz offers honors classes in almost all subjects. If you you expect you kid doing well in High School, I sugest honors and AP classes for her/ him. If they take take those classes, they will be making friends with kids who also take those classes. The classes' enviroment will be much better than the regular classes. Joing Band programs is also a good option to keep than busy and they will need to take 4 classes a day, instead of 3. I like the school. I think it is the best one in the area.
