We have two kids at the school and it's a great fit for them. It's a very personalized teaching approach and, most importantly, they learn a broad variety of subjects in addition to the basic academic load. And every year there's a couple of unexpected subjects that are taught. Some of the classes that the kids get to take have included History through Trade, ethno-biology, astronomy, mindfulness, community art (and lots of other art), music, science, Spanish, etc. etc. It's clearly a "learning environment", which works great for us.This year there's new leadership, as the founders have passed it on to a long-standing core teacher and his wife. The entire parent/school community seems very excited and involved in helping to write a great next chapter for SCCS.We've found it to be a terrific alternative to public school if the public schools don't fit your needs.

SCCS has proven to be all we had hoped for and we couldn't be more grateful. My son is enthusiastic for school every day. The teachers have shown to be professional and respectful to each other, the children and parent community. The children are respectful, kind and supportive of each other. There have been no negative issues in the classroom or the playground. I feel strongly this due to the great degree of responsible supervision, respectful communication and policy that is in place and honored. Our son's 2nd grade teacher, Nicolette Harris, has a true love and compassion for teaching. She fosters the imagination and beauty of each child's individualism and personality. It is a small school, at first a concern of ours, but that is really in where the blessing lies. This offers important individualized attention, learning and support. Organization, scheduling and attention to details are top priorities. The school's scheduling of curriculum and homework requirements are clear and consistent! This has provided better learning structure for focus, responsibility, self-confidence and academic success. He is supported and encouraged to be imaginative, inquisitive and true to himself.

This school treated my 8 year old son so poorly that it continues to impact him at 13. The lack of compassion and honesty was appalling. If it were possible I would sue for the detrimental emotional and academic impact it had on my son. Completely lacking in integrity the administrator met with me and my wife and handed back our monthly tuition check and dismissed my son with no discussion or advance warning, devastating to a child and parents. There was no rationale provided but we suspect that an influential parent whose child was in my sons class, where the children had a minor conflict (as 8 year olds can do), influenced this outcome. Why would anyone send their child to an institution with such lack of compassion and integrity is beyond my comprehension. This is not a rant but a warning that your child may be the next target.

We have a Kinder and 2nd grader here. This is our first year at SCCS. If you want child-focused learning environment with an incredible focus on overall child development (academics, art, music, spanish, etc, etc), check it out. There's a terrific student-teacher ratio with an absolutely committed set of teachers. Yesterday my 2nd grader was comparing this school from the one he was at last year and said to me: "at SCCS I'm learning a lot, like the same amount that could fit in a big rock. But last year, at my old school, I just learned just a little, about a grain of sand, probably."

A gem of a school with small class size and low student/teacher ratio which was very welcome after the huge classrooms (25+) my daughters had in the public school system in their K and 1st grades. The distractions in those classrooms were overwhelming. Because our two are different in their learning styles, we looked for an affordable school (so we could send both!) whose philosophy encompassed academic strength and also all of the "extras" that round out a quality elementary education. Friends of mine suggested SCCS after we did the tours of the better known schools. This will be our third year at SCCS and we couldn't be happier. This school offers art, vocal and instrumental music, real science, history, PE, cooking/sewing, dance/drama, library, and Spanish, many of which are taught by parents (with real credentials) of students. Parents can also be involved in the classroom but it is not required and there is no fundraising!! My girls love the variety in classes (their favorites change - right now biology and creative writing) and homework level is appropriate (maybe 10 minutes a day for 3-4 days a week for my 1st & 3rd graders). Truly a school for nice kids who like to learn.
