Our experience at this school was wonderful. Our children attended for nine years each, and they were beautifully prepared for high school. We appreciated the creative assignments, the performing-arts opportunities, the sports program, the public-speaking curriculum, and the joyfulness of the daily experience. A superb education!

Crane has been an expensive "meh" of an education. The school is much more interested in fund raising from its student family base than in excelling at the development of young people. I wish we had sent our child elsewhere. Academically they have not pushed at all and have not gotten the most out of our child. In other development, the school has been average. The school head is well below that standard you would want, and the self aggrandizing is cloying. If it were not for a very wealthy base of families that have the influence for their children to move onto quality high school institutions, Crane would be seen as an, at best, average place to send you kids. For the money, there are much better alternatives.

Our kids did not start Crane in Kindergarten. They both transferred in; one into the Lower School and the other into the Upper School. We could not be happier about the transition. We were given host families who openly welcomed us, and our children quickly made great friends. The level of education exceeded our expectations. Crane's staff is enthusiastic and highly educated in their area of focus. The Upper School offers a wide variety of classes along with rigorous core courses. The Lower School has inspired our younger child with many hands-on learning experiences. The dramatic arts and music programs are phenomenal. This paralleled with visual arts, STEM science courses, a service learning program, and after-school sports teams make Crane the complete package. We feel lucky to be a part of the Crane community.

Our family moved to the Santa Barbara area several years ago so that our daughter could attend Crane. We had researched several schools (both public and private) in our previous neighborhood as well as in the Santa Barbara area, and we are so happy to have found Crane! Nine years ago when she entered Crane's kindergarten class, we had high hopes but really didn't know what to expect. We currently have an 8th grader and 4th grader who have both attended since kindergarten, and our family’s experience at Crane has far exceeded all of our expectations in so many ways. Without a doubt, choosing Crane has been a great investment in our children’s future and has had a positive impact on our family as a whole. There are several components to Crane’s program that set it apart from other schools. The strong academics with experiential education in which students “learn by doing” helps foster a true joy of learning in its students. Crane’s core value of kindness, daily assemblies, and monthly Parents for Crane speaker events focusing on education and parenting, all help create a supportive and enriching experience for both students and parents alike. One of our favorite aspects of Crane are the exceptional teachers and staff who are talented, dedicated, and passionate. Crane teachers teach at Crane, not because they have to, but because they want to. Just this last week as I dropped my son off at school, his 4th grade teacher pulled me aside and said, “I want to let you know something. It’s so important to spend time with people you care about, and I just want to let you know how much I love teaching this class and being with these kids. I wouldn’t want to spend my day doing anything else.” As I pulled out of the Crane school parking lot, once again, I was reminded how fortunate our family is to be able to send our kids to this incredible school.

Our family moved to Santa Barbara and our three children began school at Crane when they were entering the 2nd, 4th and 6th grades. We were very impressed with the warm welcome that we received and how quickly our entire family was integrated into the community. There were many opportunities in the first month (and even before school began) to meet Crane families and to get involved with the school through volunteer and social activities. Our children are now finishing up their third year at Crane. They are absolutely thriving and love school! We are confident that our 8th grader is well prepared to meet the challenges that he will face in high school. We feel so fortunate to have landed at Crane. It is truly an exceptional school where intellectual curiosity is fostered, the curriculum is rigorous and it is presented in a creative, experiential environment.
