My City School is a truly amazing and inspiring place with incredibly talented, highly motivated, dedicated, and patient teachers. It caters to smart children that have a hard time reaching their true potential in a regular classroom due to their learning differences. The staff at My City School was not only able to bring the joy of going to school back into my child’s life but also helped her realize that she is smart and that she can learn when taught in a way that caters to her learning style. My City School has a challenging curriculum that is well thought through and makes it possible for teachers to really teach across the curriculum. When reading and summarizing the graphic novel of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in language arts, the children learned about the Middle Ages and Renaissance in history, learned parts of the play in drama class, for a performance at graduation, and created a set for it in art class. The way that My City School includes project based learning across the subjects is also very impressive. When the children took part at the San Francisco Middle School Science Fair, and won a 2nd and 3rd place, their research projects became part of the Math, English and Science class. There is always a teacher available after hours in case questions arise concerning homework assignments and the staff spends endless hours coming up with teaching content to inspire each individual child. The content is taught very hands on and through many real life learning opportunities outside the classroom. Visiting the SF Recycling plant, volunteering with the SF Food Bank, Save the Bay, and Park and Rec, are just a few examples. There is so much more to learning than spelling, reading and writing and at My City School children have the opportunity to experience that.

My daughter, who attends another SF middle school, was welcomed to participate in the MCS 'Internet Radio' after-school enrichment sessions. She gained confidence and knowledge, made new friends in a small, cooperative, and encouraging setting, and had a lot of fun doing so! The teachers impressed me with their clear, deep understanding of each student and the ability to draw out the best in each child. The founders take great care to implement evidence-based strategies for each student's success, and integrate a set of values and expectations that help establish and support individual and group responsibilities. If your middle schooler learns differently and would benefit from a small school setting where high expectations are the aim, MCS should be considered highly!

I am really proud of my son and the staggering academic growth he has achieved at MCS. I am indebted to the committed teachers who work hard to meet individual academic and social needs of each student. My son has also loved the regular excursions into the city to take advantage of academic programs and volunteer opportunities.

What do you do if your bright child learns differently and has college dreams? Enroll her in My City School! This is the best thing we could have done for our daughter! Meeting her academically where she is, supporting the whole child development, and the social emotional growth has been tremendous! This school digs deep into learning in ways that other educational environments don t have the time to do. I m grateful to all who support the program!
