Milk (Harvey) Civil Rights Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

Excellent. My daughter is asking questions about racial and economic disparity after only one full year. She's learned about so many social justice issues that I never did until college in my Midwest upbringing. In our second year at the community we are already seeing a strong support system for all families. My kids have not reached "testing age", so I can't speak to the low test scores, only to say that as our principal stays on longer, I believe those will improve as well. We are all so happy to be part of the Harvey Milk family.

We are just finishing up our second year here. Our daughter has had great teachers and can't wait to go to school in the morning. For our son we only put Harvey Milk down for the lottery. True there is no wait list currently but I predict next at this time there will be one. This year the community really gelled. The parents really came together and put the time in. I have really enjoyed the time our family spends with the other families at the school and we really feel more part of the community now than we ever have before. Everyone is excited that we have such a highly regarded principal to lead us next year.

I have been working at Harvey Milk for 5 years. I am so thankful to be part of such a wonderful community. This school is a little special gem. The staff and families are amazing. The acceptance, love, and diversity at this school are like no other. I am very excited about the future of Milk. Ron Machado, the former principal of Miraloma, is going to be the new principal beginning next year. I cannot wait for his leadership, talent, and great ideas!

My daughter has special needs and HMCRA has been so wonderful for her to navigate. There are no special ed classes, all children with special needs are integrated in typical classrooms, which is amazing. The teachers are top notch. Everyone knows my daughter at Harvey Milk, even the 5th graders. I also have a kinder already enrolled for Fall 2015. I'm very excited for both of my kids to go to Milk. It truly is a community, with a diverse staff and students. We are on the cusp of a lot of great change with a new PTO in place with a great group of parents on the board. We are also hiring a new principal. We have had some really good interim principals to help us along the way. I am very excited for the changes but also completely happy the way things are because the staff is amazing.

My child has been at Harvey Milk for 5 years and we absolutely love the school. The teachers are all amazing, as is the community. It's very small and intimate, and everyone looks out for each other. They emphasize peace and restorative practices to handle any conflicts, and Coach Glenn does amazing work with the children (and the parents!) on confidence and self-motivation. It's an amazing community and I highly recommend it for any child and family. It's a very special place!
