This school is disappointing. My son is being bullied to the point where I think it's criminal and the school is failing to do anything about it. The school believes in talking to these students instead of handing out real consequences, leaving these kids to laugh it off and do it again. A hate crime was committed against my son and his teachers laughed about it and told me they are too busy to speak with me. Completely unacceptable! Not to mention this school also dropped the ball on getting my son tested in the 15 days they were supposed to by law. My son now hates school from the bullying and not receiving help on his work. Last I met with his English teacher Mr Sloan, he told me my son was lazy and didn't need any additional help. I strongly recommend you send your children to other schools. This one is filled with badly behaved bullies and teachers who aren't much better and only see children as a paycheck. The teachers are insensitive and lack care for the children in their charge.

This school is an undiscovered gem. It sets high academic goals which are reflected in its double-digit test score increases. The principal is everywhere -- auditing classes, greeting and speaking with students, and meeting with parents. This school offers more than is advertised on its web-site: music classes, ballet, boys-to-men mentoring, Spanish immersion and Spanish instruction, and more activities coming on this year. The school prepares the students for high school and college by exemplifying and expecting the students to be respectful and responsible. The teachers are experienced and passionate professionals. Students enjoy small class sizes and free lunch AND breakfast for all students. Friendly students and active PTO.

I was very hopeful that this school would work out despite its poor ratings. Its a beautiful campus and close to my house. But unfortunately it sucks as bad as it is rated. My kids don't do well in such a negative, petty culture and I will be seeking out a school that has love for their kids.

This school is not like the other schools here in San Diego, it really is a part of the community and the community is a part of it. So happy to be a part of Golden Hill!

I've worked at Golden Hill K-8 for three years now as an Ed Specialist and I know how hard all the staff from Pre-K all to 8th grade work to help our students perform and push towards more proficient test scores and more demanding standards. Staff is constantly being provided with trainings, new technology, and better ways to handle classroom behavior. Our new V.P. is doing a great job with the culture of the school and really understands the students needs. Our new dual-language program is helping all students excel in both English and Spanish understanding. We are starting to have more after school and before school programs such as running club, and Primetime that allow students to be in a safe environment while their parents work. The kids are good kids and they want to achieve their best. The PTO does a great job with fund raising and adding to the school spirit. We are fast becoming a school to look out for in all grade levels! Come visit us and see!
