First we enjoyed the teachers our two children had during the ~3 years they were there (Toddler and Primary Programs with Christina/Jean & Mary Helen). I truly believe they are quality and I am sad we will not be sending our third child to them.... Why, you ask?Because dealing with the front office makes it not worth it. To get into the school you have to get through a woman name Jacq in admissions. Let me warn you... she is way more important than you are and she does not have time for you. It doesn't matter that you make TWO trips to the school to speak to her. And she is there (literally 10 feet away) but, "about to go to lunch, so.... can she call you?" Then she never does.... We spent over 60k ($900 per kid/month) for our two oldest kids to go there over 3 years. You would think she would make time to answer two questions about enrolling our youngest.Maybe I am being petty, I just cannot believe I would have to BEG to send my child to a school. No thank you. We found another option and so far we are much happier.

The toddler class was wonderful. The student teacher ratio was 12:1. Both the teacher and assistant were caring and loving with the students while using the Montessori Method. We were pleased with the results, but were disappointed when he moved up to the primary class. The primary class had 35-40 students with only 2 teachers. It was nothing like what you see on the tour. Speaking with other parents, your experience depends heavily on what classroom your child is placed in. We were told 12 of the current 35 students needed additional help from occupational or speech therapists. The administration is extremely arrogant to top it off. Happy we quickly switched schools!

Montessori in Redlands is a good school for very young children, but it fails to measure up to other schools as students advance to the elementary level. The elementary curriculum is limited in several ways, including a lack of necessary (i.e. state mandated) subject content, and a lack of emphasis on fundamental skills such as reading comprehension, writing, spelling, and vocabulary—skills children need to be successful academically. The narrow curriculum and lack of academic oversight result in children engaging in non-educational activities or in subpar work that is far below their ability. In addition, many children display a range of behavioral issues because they do not have the skills or maturity to handle the lack of structure and lack of supervision. Unfortunately, there is little accountability for children who engage in inappropriate, disruptive, or unsafe behavior. Talk to parents in the community who have left this school at varying times and have transitioned their children to other schools—they have valuable insights to share. An aside: Do not be dissuaded by the reviewer who felt the need to label those who would post a negative review as “disgruntled.” This is a veiled attempt to bully and intimidate those who might offer different perspectives on this site.

My two children attended from preschool through sixth grade. They're two very different personalities & have different learning styles. Both succeeded. Education is a high priority in our home. Both parents have advanced degrees, and we scrutinized and expected a lot from this school and the Montessori method. Freedom and personal responsibility is key to this system--and nurtures the growth of wonderful people and world citizens, while academics are emphasized, too. Want one-size-fits-all? Choose another school. Concerned about negative reviews on this site? Consider that here, as with most things, the disgruntled tend to want to vent and be heard.

My son attended this school for 2.5 years. As he grew older it became a progressively bad fit for him. He needed access to physical exercise, otherwise he ran in circles. They have no systematic access to outside time, and when a child needs it, on rare occasions they will let him garden with an aid but more often the will make him lift chairs. Of course that does not put a dent in his energy and he becomes disruptive, at which point each teacher handles it as they see fit. If your kid is bright and does not need the watered down version they will be bored, confused and stressed out if they keep being send out of the classroom because the teacher can not handle them you will watch your child spiral downwards as they tell you how unnormal he is and you need to leave but not before you pay for the OT services. This is not a place for kids to explore their intellect and their bodies or to feel a part of a group. This place relies on your kid pursuing an activity alone and in the exact way they were told to do that activity. Kids that follow and do not question.
