After trying 3 different schools (2 private, 1 Irvine public), we found New Vista School. Our child started at the school in sixth grade. (high functioning autistic/Aspergers). The school staff and administration designed a unique program to meet the specific special needs of our child with focused goals and benchmarks that are continuously assessed. Our child has made significant progress beginning in the 1st year of attendance. Some of the goals: managing anxiety to clear a path to achieve academic goals and reach this child's potential and form social connections and relationships, developing social skills and being able to work with peers in and out of school, supporting our family and our parenting skills to achieve a better outcomes for our child. We are a team with the school and that is so beneficial to our family. We evaluate the school on a year-by-year basis and continue to have our child attend and have been reaping the rewards of New Vista School and the passionate administration and teaching staff. They are completely dedicated to the success of students, constantly seeking cutting-edge educational and behavioral tools to assist and support all of the students. Our child is currently taking high school classes as well as community college classes in the 10th grade and excelling based on the support of New VISTA School. Not only has our child learned new successful behaviors and improved academically, our family life has improved as well and is happier. The Director of Students is remarkable in her ability to support and empower the students and families! She has an advanced degrees (Masters w Spec Ed and Ed. Specialist post grad degree) Her passion for the student' success permeates the school! We are grateful to have found New Vista School where they help children with high functioning autism/Aspergers and their families have better quality of life! Thank you!

New Vista School is a place where my child is actually taught and respected, and where she is now thriving. My daughter has been at New Vista for 3 years and it has literally saved her life. In the public school, my daughter was allowed to sleep through class. The teachers meant well but they had absolutely no expectations for her! At NV, she is reading, writing, doing math, loving science and even making friends. She finally is having a "normal" life. Thank you New Vista!

To follow is a review from OUR perspective from OUR experience at NV:Several years ago, as part of the process of due diligence shopping for placement of our ASD student, we spoke with a parent from NV school. We were surprised to hear they had a bad experience and voiced concern and angst of the staff and school. They expressed the situation when sideways when they approached staff over concerns about how the school and their student was being handled. After approaching the staff regarding their student, they were "locked out" (aka ignored) and the family was distraught. Instead of believing this family, we discarded what we did not want to hear and listened more to the sales job by the director. It sounded PERFERCT!!! We now realize we received a heck of a sales job and very little of the promises came to pass. Our student attended NV for a number of years and several of the teachers are GREAT but the admin staff and the BOD is a revolving door of a mess, for starters they have had approx 4 directors in 3 years and we have assessed they are financially very unstable. The BOD and the staff don’t want anyone to ask hard questions and they try to hide everything they can. We have observed blatant attempts to shut down any communication from the "bad parents"(the intelligent inquirers) to any other parent regarding the shenanigans behind the curtain. If you are one that innocently questions things that don't' appear to be as presented, you are blown off and then shunned by staff and parents afraid to rock the boat for their student. We assume NV must think, as a desperate parent, you have no recourse especially if you have a spirited or unique placement scenario. For us, we felt the very similar feeling of the public school lying to you.Our advice: Check out everything and TALK TO PAST AND CURRENT PARENTS. One way to approach a parent is off campus when they leave the facility, to get the real story. We would no longer recommend this school to a friend with a child on the spectrum. GOOD LUCK!
