Aspire Ollin University Preparatory Academy Ratings & Reviews

Although I like the schools' philosophy "College for Certain" and their strict-ness I have to say that when I weighed the pros and cons the "cons" seemed to be more than pros. With new smaller LAUSD schools becoming availabe I felt it was best to transfer my daughter to another school which has small classroom setting like charters do but have more extracurricular activities for students (which helps their resumes for universities) and offer more AP classes. My child has received medals for her high GPA but still did not qualify for AP classes due to the limited # of AP classes and the GPA they must have. My child has started to take college classes because it was felt that it would help her more than the limited classes that Ollin offers. I've enjoyed having my children in Aspire schools, but Ollin is the school I've had more negative encounters with. Front office staff is so selective in who they are courteous and professional with and I have shared this with Ms. Garcia (Principal) but the staff's attitude only worsened; so much that even my child feels the hostility when approaching the front office staff. That should be concerning to Ms. Garcia but from her action (or lack of) it is not. As far as parents involvement, I almost felt I had to force myself to be heard and so that was the start of the front office being less than happy to see me at school. It started at Centennial and has gone on to Ollin only to worsen. Classes are challenging and teachers are very good at responding to emails and texts - that I will definitely miss.

I feel that 95% of teachers-Asst. Principal-and Dean are very professional and they are always there if "we" as parents ask for their help! The only complaint I see is that the principal has to come out of her comfort zone and try to get to know her parents and community who are waiting for her to show interest so they can get involved also. There are so many parents that do care about the school but feel that lack of appreciation from the principal and that lack of parent participation can be seeing in the monthly meetings- I see no support for the new parent committee who are trying to get parents to come out of their "waste my time" attitude but just can't by themselves! There is NO parents-principal interaction which needs to improve. Our sports students would like the principal to get involved in their sports also with her physical presence in the games just like other staff does my daughter and son always mention how she never goes to see them even if they are playing in school. Oh and before I forget the front office staff needs to be a little more courteous with students and randomly people who come into the school office. No everyone is greeted with a smiling attitude.

This is from far one of the best Schools I know. My son studied here from 6-8 grade and he did great! They really focus on their education, are very estrict with the students and no tolerance with bulling in my own son words. I will always recommend this school since I had a great experience. Now I live in Downey but my son is still going to Centenial HS and he loves it...well not so much since they changed the uniform but he looks really handsome Mom likes

My niece is being bullied by several girls. The administrators are not doing anything about it. One administrator states, that he did not have control of what came out of the girls mouth. My niece refuses to go to school due to her being bullied. Administrators should make sure students feel safe in school. They need to run a bully free school!!!!!

Bullying is has gone over the top at this school and needs to be taken seriously towards these actions that the students do which hasnt been done. However, the education is quite good.Furthermore, this school could be unfair once in a while.
