We were initially impressed with this school when we enrolled our now 10 year old daughter Katerina. We loved how the school's teaching system was excellent and the affection from the teachers, but as the years went by, we felt that the school was falling apart. In 2016, the original principal, Mary Lyons, retired. When she retired, the school was taken over by Micheal Lee. Micheal Lee is nothing like Mary Lee! Mary Lee had passion for her work, and show up every day to school with a smile on her face, unlike Micheal Lee. Micheal usually comes in 3-4 days per week and has no energy or enthusiasm. When it is a rainy day or a disasterous event happened in Cupertino (an earthquake or murder in 2014), Mary would usually announce that it was an unscheduled holiday or excuse kids from tardy, but Micheal never does this, which shows disrespect. I pulled Katerina out of the school, and she will start her new school tomorrow.

We visited several catholic schools when we were looking for the right school for our children. St. Joseph of Cupertino stood out to us as a school that provides a well-rounded education and a nurturing environment. Our children have been attending SJC for nine years and it was the best decision we made. We truly feel very lucky and blessed to be part of the SJC community. We have three children at SJC and they are all extremely happy! We have an amazing principal, vice principal, faculty, and staff. They are very supportive, dedicated, and caring. The teachers do an excellent job in encouraging every student to achieve their highest potential. SJC educates the whole child. We highly recommend St. Joseph of Cupertino!!!!!!!

We are so happy with the choice we made to send our children here. (One in 8th grade and one already been through and accepted into the Catholic High school of his choice) There are so many good things to be shared:COMMUNITY -The parents, teachers and administration are all on the same page about raising and educating academically prepared and caring individuals. Our family has become so close with other families and I know we will always remain friends. We just had our annual carnival which is a lot of work by every family but SO MUCH FUN, great memories for everyone. I enjoyed seeing all the prior students and parents come back to partake in this fun tradition at SJC.ACADEMICS -Having a school with high enrollment enables SJC to offer so many opportunities to the students. Every class has a aide, iPads areused in all classes, with the 8th grade being issued iPads that they use exclusively (which is great preparation for high school). SJC offers advanced and intervention opportunities to students who need extra challenges or assistance. They have computers, Spanish, a amazing fine arts program and a large library.EXTRA CURRICULAR -It seems every year new after school classes are offered like coding, Chinese, robotics and chess. There are co-ed sports for grades1-3 (football and basketball) and all sports for grade 4-8 including a swim and track meet held at St Francis High School. 8th graders have the opportunity to be spirit cheerleaders and yell leaders. There really is something for everyone! As we prepare to shadow high schools and make a decision on where to apply I am confident that my 8th grader is well prepared and will succeed wherever he decides to go but it will be bittersweet to leave such a wonderful school.

Initially we were impressed with the school and leadership. Now, we are rethinking our kid's schooling. The principal has a tendacy to rely on public humiliation as a dicipline tactic. We have seen her humiliate kids in front of the entire school. The teachers are exception but honestly, they look tired. The faculty and principal are continuously pressing the students to give money to the school. This is above and beyond the enormous annual tuition. We support the emphasis on supporti the community, but do not support teachers who guilt their students into donating money. Teachers and staff who have kids enrolled receive special treatment. The after hours day care is a concern. The woman who runs it has her own grown kids as employees. They always have their noses in their phones or are on the computer. Rarely do they supervise the kids. What's worse is the one gal always seems hung over or talks about partying with older kids. The son is covered in tattoos and seems like he's on a different planet. Not what you expect for a Catholic environment. If changes are made we'll consider staying and revising our review.

When I ask my daughter what she likes best about going to school at SJC, she says, "Everything!" She is in 2nd grade and has been attending since kindergarten. We are thrilled that she will continue through 8th grade.
