Echo Horizon School Ratings & Reviews

We've been at Echo for 4 years, and our daughter continues to love school and thrive here. When we first toured the school, my immediate thought was, "This is what every school in LA should be like". A place where every teacher and staff member knows you and your child by name; creative spaces with drop in hours during recess and lunch for kids who aren't always outdoors-inclined and open dialog between parents and school officials. Our daughter was initially shy and sensitive to loud environments, so the small class sizes and teacher:student ratio here were a good fit for us. Our child has found her voice here and models the behavior she sees from her teachers - a love for learning, helping others and thoughtfully seeing different perspectives. Unlike many other private schools we toured, Echo is unpretentious, welcoming to families where both parents have professional careers, and the best investment we could have made for our child.

I am a parent with two children at the school, both in the lower grades. They are two very different types of learners, and they're both thriving amidst this engaged, supportive environment. Being at a smaller school means they have many more eyes on them, and as parents we are constantly informed on how they're doing. Most importantly, the character of the children at this school amazes me. They really focus on values and inclusivity, and it shows. It's truly a special place, and the kids feel that positive energy and we feel like they're protected and nurtured. The families all connected, a tight-knit and welcoming community. It's feels like the small community schools I grew up attending, but with a host of technology and highly degreed teachers. We love it!

Great school. Our child has been at the school for 3 years and we couldn't be happier. Intelligent, caring, experienced teachers. Small class (and school) size. Mix of both traditional and more progressive project-based and learning opportunities. Down-to-earth, committed families and kind, smart kids. Good fit for our child and family.

I came to Great Schools today specifically to write a review about Echo Horizon and the experience my family has had and, I have to say, I'm literally shocked by the last two reviews. We also had an exhaustive school research process. Admittedly, going in to that search, Echo was not our first choice, but within a few months we knew for sure: Echo was where we wanted to be. The teachers, the school, the administration, the other kids and the parent community, the environment at Echo far exceeded any other school we visited (and we went on 10+ tours). My son started in K, and over the years that we have been there, I have seen him FLOURISH. We knew he was bright (don't we all think our children are bright?), but we saw his brain go into hyperdrive; he developed a true LOVE for learning that still motivates him. He adores all of his teachers, has built incredible relationships with his classmates (as well as children outside of his class -- one of the amazing benefits of a small school: my seven year old has an upcoming playdate with a 10 year old!) and is experiencing, internalizing, and living out the schools Points of Pride (caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness) every day. To speak directly to the experience of the commenter below, I would like to share this story: earlier this school year, it was brought to our attention that our son was struggling with a skill. His teachers were clear that it was not a cognitive issue, but acknowledged that his classwork and confidence were suffering. We developed a plan to work together, and said we'd re-evaluate in the spring. Until then, his teachers were in weekly touch with us; letting us know what they were noticing, how he was working, giving us a heads up about completed work coming home where they saw improvement. When we met in Spring, we all agreed we'd seen improvement, but that he wasn't where we wanted him to be. Within a day, we were sent an EXTENSIVE list of leads (not at all "preferred") culled from teachers and admin, and they have fully supported us in seeking outside analysis and assistance. But MORE important: my son was fully supported all year long. He knows his strengths, he knows his stretches, he is eager to experiment and take risks because he knows he is valued. We LOVE it here, and this school was one of the best decisions we've made.

After an exhaustive independent school experience, we were excited to accept Echo's admission offer for our Kindergartner. Just 2 months into the school year, the tides turned & the nightmare began. Everything ranging from strong encouragement for multi-thousand $$ testing with their "preferred" partners, encouragement of meds for attention issues, and a general treatment of my little one like a disposable napkin. We hightailed it out of there after a year!!! My little one is doing great with no education issues, so I am confused about our time at Echo - I know there have been financial issues and staff reductions, so perhaps reducing the # of kids was a factor. Soooo...not worth the tuition. I will say that all of the families and kids were great.
