Elkhorn Elementary School Ratings & Reviews
I have volunteered at this school several times. I am impressed by the work ethic of the staff, the kindness to students and the quality of the student interactions with students and staff. The principal and assistant principal are very visible and a great support. I would recommend this school.
We had a horrible experience at this school! My older daughter went here for a whole school year a couple years back, and she was constantly struggling socially and academically. And quite honestly felt like her teacher couldn't stand her and had no patience. There was absolutely NO parent involvement, and when I would come to be in the class for the day the teacher wouldn't even acknowledge my being there. The following year my younger daughter started Kindergarten. Well, let's just say, she only went for the first day. I wouldn't bring her back after they LOST my 5 year old daughter for 30 MINUTES!!!! When we went to pick her up from her first day of school she was nowhere to be found. To my horror, they were about to put her on a school bus- which, considering the country road we live on would have been extremely dangerous! The office staff were completely unaffected by the whole thing. No urgency. Like it was something that just happens all the time. I wouldn't wish this school upon any family. Please remember you always have other options. This is not a school I would recommend.
love this school and teachers no problem and even recommend it to friend great activities and fundraisiers
I attended this school many years ago and was one of those students who had free & reduced lunch and breakfast--an extremely important service in an area where housing is expensive but few people have good-paying white collar jobs. I loved this school and my teachers (as did my younger brother & sister) and benefited tremendously from the district's gifted and talented program.
Too much time and money is spent providing breakfast and health care to students. I provide that for my child. It seems the focus in the school is mostly to teach English to non-native speakers, and everybody else can stand by while they 'get it'. Standing in the office one day, Spanish was the immediate language used by the school secretary to communicate to a student who entered the office. This school saw fit to saddle my second grade student with a bitter, tenured teacher who was demoted from a high-level administrative position at her previous school. Staff members with children in the same grade made sure that their children were not part of that class. Our child was lucky enough to be under the instruction of excellent teachers the first years attending Elkhorn. This school year I feel my child was done a great disservice.
