In our 2 years there, I've watched my once clingy child develop confidence and trait broaden her horizons. She's in the 4th grade and has benefited from the variety of learning methods and techniques. I'm excited to see how she grows this year!

Great school. Great teachers. Great school culture and community.

Not sure if I want to keep my child here. The fact that most of the BOD have their own children attending this school raises a huge red flag. Total conflict of interest. And how are parents supposed to know what their kids are learning if there is never any homework?

I am a student myself, and I've spent almost half of my life at this school. I don't completely regret being a part of the Golden Oak community, but I'm glad I transferred out. Throughout all of my years in Golden Oak, I've never worried about anything, I was joyful all the time with my friends and living without any concerns. But that was because I was too naive to notice that I wasn't learning anything. I always felt like I was one of the more intelligent students and that was enough for me. It was during my last year when it came to my awareness that I wasn't being educated. There was no homework, no tests, no strict rules, no pressure. Learning academically was an option. My outside friends were learning about things I had no idea about. It was then when I noticed something was tremendously wrong. I begged my parents to transfer me out of this school, sending applications to every other school like passing out fliers. When I finally got accepted into another school, I was exhilarated and I cried out of joy. Adapting to that school was extremely difficult because it was so different. There were loads of homework every single day, there were at least 3 tests per week, and the rules were harsher than ever. I realized that I was actually a student that needed the most help, and not one of the smartest. However, I did manage to climb back up after all through hard work and tears. I sacrificed my happiness for the stress of going to college. I don't regret my decision. If you want your child to be happy and free of stress, then this school is perfect for you. But if you want your child to get a proper education and get into a good college, look somewhere else. Both aspects are very important in life, but you can't always get both.

This is really a 2.5 star rating. It's my child's first year, and I'm really not so happy with the school except for the fact that everyone here is really nice. The good: 1. Teachers are very caring and so is the Head of School. They truly care about the emotional, mental and physical well-being of each child. 2. They promote independence and creativity in each child.Areas for improvement: 1. No homework: There is never any homework and the "projects" which are given I think every 2 months, don't require much work. I think homework should be given at least 2-3 times a week. The only "homework" is reading daily for at least 15 minutes which has to be signed off by parents. 2. As mentioned in another review, the school does seem to be more focused on child being happy instead of academics, even though both are extremely important. It seems like it's okay for the kids to do whatever they want (jumping around, running and playing around) and no one really says anything. Also, my child is in first grade and didn't know how to add 10+10, so I purchased 1st grade work books and started giving her "homework" for 30 minutes during the week. 3. TOO much time off during the school year. This year, the school year started at the end of August, then, the kids were out of school for a week in October. They were out again for a week in November, two weeks off in December, another week off coming up in February and another week and a half off for Spring Break. That's not including holidays, teacher work days and minimum days which occur every week. My child is happy here, but I'm really concerned as to whether or not she's actually learning.
