Agoura High School Ratings & Reviews

I have been very pleased with the education of two children at this school and look forward to sending a third. I am thrilled with the breadth of offerings, with the rigor of the academics, and the social support. The music program is spectacular.

Great teachers, great and challenging curriculum, and prepares students very well for their college / university experience.

I am a parent of a Junior year student at Agoura High. I have another child who graduated several years ago, so I have a fair idea what this school is like. I think it is a mix of good and bad - more good than bad. There are some awesome teachers and there are a few "teachers" who should be working in the DMV , not a high school. A lot of the teaching issues in AHS stems from the California curriculum which things that if you throw a lot of information at the students, they magically transform into mini Nobel Laureates. There is often a tendency to hire sports coaches who are also faculty members. With a few notable exceptions, these are some of the worst teachers in the school. I believe the current Principal Mr. Mercer genuinely cares about the school and is quite proactive unlike his predecessor.

My daughter is a freshman at AHS and is having a great experience. She is in the pre-IB program and is challenged appropriately, has good relationships with her teachers, and is supported both socially and educationally. Some teachers are inconsistent with keeping grades posted and have been difficult to reach, but not excessively so, and others have gone out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. We are very happy with our choice of Agoura High School. Our principal keeps us informed and is involved with the students.

AHS is a disappointing high school although resided in a decent area with vast donations from parents and the community. There are unbelievable numbers of teachers who have convinced us through their daily teaching that students and their leanings are not the teachers concern. Many staff in the office treats students as they were stupid kids, or even worse, criminals. Some staff takes advantage of students and their parents, selling beauty products to garner extra income. Too many unqualified counselors are in AHS collecting tax payers money. Many of my friends constantly feel that we are wasting time in AHS, but we are stocked here because we can t afford private high schools. On the other hand, some exceptional teachers are as dedicated as teachers can be to their students. I mostly admire the teacher who works very hard and cares about her students despite of herself battling cancer. My star goes to these teachers. I wish AHS deserves more of the stars.
