3 of my children went to this school. One thrived. Although he did well and graduated with a 3.75 GPA he did not get any help with scholarships to the state college he is currently attending. One graduated with little hope or ambition to achieve anything, because this student never quite measured up to the favorites of the class. The 3rd was removed from this school because of the attitude of the administration and poor math education. The administration neither cares about the individual student or a parent's plea for help.

We spent two years doing in-depth research of middle/high schools all over the Phoenix and surrounding areas. Basis was originally an option, but was discarded due to class sizes, emphasis on perfection and the horror stories of children being so stressed out by the incredible demands of the school that they needed psychiatric help. JMPS has the right balance of emphasis on hard work, character development, freedom for self-determination (receiving the outcome proportional to the effort they put forth) and the reasonable expectation that students be the very best they can be-no more, no less. This school believes in combining arts and academics because they are mutually beneficial, so there is art, music and PE and lots of clubs, activities and sports. When I'm on campus, I notice students behaving respectfully toward each other and have witnessed the upper grades being very supportive of the younger kids. It's both odd and wonderful, because you don't often notice teenagers acting so maturely. The students who attend JMPS seem to be more professional and take their education seriously. Students are actively involved and care about different causes, and they keep each other informed of charity, club or sports news every day though their assembly. The class sizes are small and no one is a stranger without a name on campus. As a parent, I am so grateful JMPS exists and that we have the freedom in Arizona to choose to send our child to this school. We couldn't be happier with James Madison Prep. No complaints, highly recommend!

I was disappointed in the last couple of yrs with James Madison Prep. In my opinion, several of the stronger teachers left and some newly graduated, ex JMPS students were brought back to fill the vacancies. I found that the favortism level was at an all time high, as well as the drama level. I also do not believe that James Madison Prep did an adequate job in providing information about college scholarships, Community College or out of state opportunities. As a family that was something we did through Tempe Unified School District. I truly believe this is a disservice to my kid and it took a great deal of outside work.

JMPS exceeded all expectations I had when looking for the perfect school for my daughter five years ago. A friend recommended I check this school out based on one of the plays she saw six years ago. My first impression of the campus was not the best as the facilities were not state of the art and a little run down, but I liked what they had to offer by way of education and decided to take a chance and enroll my daughter who would be starting 8th grade. This was the best decision we ever made for her. Not only does this school offer a challenging curriculum to prepare their students for college, they offer so much more. They understand that school is not just about education, but about community, the arts, sports, family, responsibility, patriotism, camaraderie, and so much more. Our daughter, who has always been exceptionally bright, needed a smaller school where she wouldn't get lost in the mainstream. JMPS has teachers who are dedicated and care about EACH and EVERY student they teach. These exceptional teachers truly KNOW their students. They not only care about their academic achievements, but about them as individuals. I've watched so many students thrive and excel under the tutelage of these gifts and caring instructors. These teachers invest their lives into the lives of their students. Because this school is small and only receives limited funding, the teachers step up and wear many hats, from english, math, history, science, to tap, music, theater, track, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc. They also teach several "club" classes such as archery, tap, french, rock and roll, dance, robotics, etc. If there are enough students with an interest, a club class will be born. This school encourages creativity. This school has a way of bringing about the very best your child has inside. The teachers challenge their students in so many areas to help them find their true gifts. This is so evident when you see one of their drama plays or musicals. How these teachers extract the amazing talent in the students is still a mystery to me. Yet, I am always amazed when I see one of their performances which far surpasses anything you experience in HS. I have been brought to tears of laughter, joy, and sadness by these amazing students. There is so much more I would like to write, but space is limited.

This school has been a great experience for my daughter. The staff are committed and love the school and the kids, and my daughter is getting a great academic education, plus all the extra-curric she can handle. Plus, there is an emphasis on character as well as classwork. She's been very happy here.
