Holdeman Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

I absolutely LOVE this school! My son used to attend other Tempe schools, but Holdeman by far is the BEST! I feel like the type of relationship the teachers, principal and ESPECIALLY front office staff portray makes me feel just like family. EVERY time my husband or I walk in those doors, we get greeted by name...and as new parents and family to this school, that is very HARD to come by. I LOVE how they pay attention to the small details about my kids and are ready, willing and able to assist us in ANY hardship we face! There isn't any other school that I would recommend! #GoHuskies

Amazing school! My child has been going to this school since kindergarten. She is not an easy child to deal with. She has behavioral issues due to personal health issues. The staff at Holdeman have been amazingly supportive in making sure that she gets a proper education. The communication between the teacher and myself is amazing. I can send a text, call or email the teacher or any staff member and the response is very quick. The principal practice's problem resolution and teaches it to the kids. She knows how to handle children in a firm yet nurturing manner. I am a single mother and because of the staff of this school I don't feel so alone. From the very first day I walked in to register my daughter for school 3 years ago. The front office staff was very nice and made me feel comfortable. The vice principal always talks to the kids not at them. I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child. As the old addage says, I am proud that part of my village includes Holdeman. I am a proud Holdeman Husky Mom!

Holdeman is my home. Every day when I go there, I see all these bright, young, and smiling faces from students who are yearning to succeed. I see a staff that is striving to get their students to meet attainable, rigorous, and meaningful goals. I see an environment that welcomes unity, diversity, strength, weakness, but most importantly a place for students to be loved. Holdeman is a school that represents itself proudly. Our administration, our teachers, our instructional assistants, and the staff that supports us from IE... We all have one common goal in mind. We do what we have to, want to, and need to for our students so we can help them dream for and achieve future success! To quote a teacher, who is one of the hardest workers I know, "We love Holdeman, yes we do! We love Holdeman, how about you?" My answer to that question is yes. I stand along side all of our wonderful Holdeman Huskies!

There are so many great things that we do at Holdeman that go unmentioned. I've taught for the last 8 years on this campus and have witnessed amazing results in students who come through these doors. I'm proud to be a Husky!

I have worked at this school for a couple years. The teachers were able to handle anything with flying colors. The students at this school really depend on the teachers, and the teachers know that. They patiently guide the students to have a love of learning. The atmosphere got rough when the administration at this school changed in January. It no longer had the loving atmosphere that the previous principal had instilled. Every second was now micromanaged and had to be academic. Even Valentine's Day celebrations were now banned. Multiple walkthroughs every day and frequent observations for the purpose of finding out what you are doing wrong was now the norm. What was observed in every classroom was emailed out for the whole team to see what each other was doing at the exact same time. Discrepancies were questioned. Weekly lesson plans that averaged 12-18 pages were to be submitted online every week and would be critiqued and expected to be fixed. You had to assess your students multiple times a week and present your scores at the weekly PLC meeting. If your students didn't score well, you had to put your name on the board and explain how you will improve the scores. Micromanaging overflowed onto Saturday planning days. You were scheduled academic coaches who rotated in to "babysit" your lesson planning with your team. You weren't allowed to work on stations, make any copies, or use the workroom on these Saturdays. You were not given time alone with your team to plan on these Saturdays. Students were no longer "encouraged" to make good choices by the principal, they were now bullied. He would come into the classroom and look for students who were off task. He would come from behind them and physically move their head to make them pay attention. He would stand over a student in the hallway who wasn't following directions rather than get on their level to talk to them. On the last day of school when he handed out checks, he made sure to add a personal attack to each teacher. I know that a couple teachers have expressed their concern to district. I hope district does something. Having over 30 teachers leave is not a coincidence. The sad thing is that these students really need special teachers...and almost all of them were driven away.
