I think overall for me it is a good experience, but I know a lot of people that came out depressed and academically exhausted, and they do not care about your extracurriculars or sports. You really have to use your time wisely if you would like to do well in this school.

I am a mother of two Basis students, both very happy in Basis environment. True, this is not a school for everyone. True, if your child has difficulties learning or lacks academic motivation, the grades will suffer. But for kids looking forward to the academic challenge and new learning experience Basis is awesome. It is important to set the expectation right. Basis does not "babysit" your child, it promotes independence and self-discipline. But with good planning amount of homework is always manageable. What I appreciate about Basis the most is how inspired my kids by the robust intellectual environment. They are always given opportunity to discover something new, push themselves forward, disagree with the teachers, if they feel like doing it. Since we transferred from the public school (four years ago), my kids never cease to amaze me by the depth of their knowledge, ability to think independently, and express genuine thrust for intellectual development.

F. Why? Because I didn't raise a sheep. I raised a free-thinker & that just doesn't fit with the Basis model. The graduate requirements are ridiculous, the stress put on these children is absolutely horrendous. And...come on, it's a corporation. The Blocks have never publicly shared the corporation finances - they keep it hidden. I find SO MANY things wrong with this approach. I am saddened I allowed a COMPANY to teach my child for years, reaching a goal that IS NOT NECESSARY for graduation in our state!! This school is poorly run from admin all the way up, PLEASE re-think & reconsider if you are considering this school. It's not worth your childs state of mind.

Teacher turnover so high that we took our daughter out and now have her home schooled. I didn't know why the teachers kept leaving until I discovered what kind of money they make. Homes are not going to appreciate in an area that treats teachers so poorly and a governor who does not support education and teachers. I feel sorry for homeowners who are not going to see their values go up due the poor school systems. Arizona now last of all states in education according to our news we get.

My son went to two Great Hearts Academy and a public school before ending up at BASIS. Let me be honest... Great Hearts are trying to be BASIS, but they fail terribly. BASIS doesn't give that much homework like Great Hearts, and my kids have enough time for their extra curricular activities out of the school's! He copes much better as BASIS focuses on individual discipline and wants parents to be out. They want your kids to be independent, and do everything themselves, unlike the other schools I sent my kids to. They let your kids learn how to resolve issues among themselves, they also allow you to experience the education with your kids. I strongly recommend BASIS if you want your kids to be challenged without being restricted by silly disciplinary rules.
