My granddaughter has been attending this school since kindergarten and is progressing nicely even with a mild learning /speech disability. The teachers take the time to make sure that she is receiving the attention that she needs, as well as, providing me with the information that I need to help her at home.

Apparently the "Arizona Way" appears to be not to rock the boat. The administrators don't want to be bothered with discipline problems (of which there are many). They insinuate that if a teacher sends a child to the office, it is a sign of weakness. The implication is that the teacher is not able to handle the situation. Perhaps administration needs to reinforce to the misbehaving child that the bad behavior will not be tolerated. The message needs to be sent that the administration will take charge and back the teacher. Instead, the administration has to spend their time dealing with the state and district mandates. If only the public really knew what the districts and states are making teachers do that has nothing to do with actually preparing for each instructional day with their children. If the public realized how much money is poured into instructional coaches rather than teachers, how much time is wasted in multiples assessments, and how teachers are micro-managed and given busy work by districts, they would be outraged.

My son attended 2 years at this school. He loved it. The teachers are awesome and really care about the students. Our son is a little slower to read (about a half year behind) and a follower. The kids support and help him, rather than harass as the teachers promote good behavior and teamwork in their classrooms. It really can be controlled quite a bit how the children treat each other by how responsive the teachers are to promoting a caring attitude. I have found them excellent in the 1st,2nd, 3rd grade levels and expect the same in the 4th grade. Education good and no social bullying. Will really miss this school!

My younger brother used to attend the school, and he absolutely adored the school. We had to un-enroll him so he could attend Sky View instead. My little sister has been attending this school for two years, and this year has been absolutely terrifying for her. The girls constantly harass her, call her fat an ugly, and they make fun of her clothes, while the boys scratch her, pinch her, tackle her and smack her. What does the principal do you ask? Absolutely nothing. He proceeds to just correct my mother on her grammar of all things during a phone conference, and then refuses to do anything to make my sister feel safer. Instead says unless there's any witnesses they can do absolutely nothing for my little sister. She has bruises, scratches, and cuts all over. This school has completely demolished my little sister's creativity, her imagination and her confidence. This school is definitely on my NOT RECOMMENDED. SEND YOUR CHILD SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Excellent teachers. My son had Mrs. Riley for kindergarten academy and she is my daughter's teacher as well; she has always communicated well with us and really cares about student success. This review is to discuss downsides that are really district issues: 1. Class sizes is much too large in the lower grades. With the new core standards and emphasis on students passing AIMS in 3rd grade, the K-3 curriculum is quite challenging, plus teachers are expected to modify the curriculum for individual students. This is extremely difficult when you have 27 students in a kindergarten class. Parents pay for full-day kindergarten in Peoria--class size either needs to be smaller or the teachers need aides. 2. Unfortunately, I had to move my son last year to the only school in the district near my work that has a gifted program, as Peoria did away with PI. He is happy at Heritage Elementary (and his class size is smaller) but because the school is in Glendale the district doesn't offer before after/school care there. Peoria, please focus funds where they belong: teachers' salaries, lowering class size, and bringing back special programs.
