I'm 54 and have raised 4 children and this is the first time I've felt it necessary to rate a school. The atmosphere is chaotic, from the classroom to the front office. Vulgar language is commonplace on campus. Neighbors complain of children wondering off campus and drugs. The teachers seem to think that acting immaturely and rude will help them relate to students. The choices made by the theatre teacher are questionable. The latest example is my 14 -year-old daughter receiving her script for a short piece involving Alice in Wonderland and penises were mentioned for no reason. Yes, she knows what they are, and yes, we know they're simply a body part...but why did they need to be mentioned? The teacher had given the script to the girls to study without even reading it, although I'm not sure that would have made a difference. Another teacher was recently involved in a prank on school grounds involving fake blood, crime scene tape, and multiple chalk outlines of child-sized bodies...this in the midst of recent death threats sent to Flagstaff schools! Another teacher left his students inattended and one boy broke another boy's arm. Today, my daughter came home with a huge piece from the back of her brand new blouse cut out. No textbooks are used, so it makes it more difficult to help a child at home. The online resources are not helpful if not updated timely. Great school? I don't think so.

High school is a fundamental part of growing up. Figuring out the role we play in this busy world we live in is a foreboding task and I can't think of a better place to do just that. FALA's accepting environment paired with faculty and staff that share a genuine concern for the students' well being while fostering an environment rich with academic as well as artistic studies produces well rounded, highly educated citizens who are aware of the world around them with the ability to make educated decisions while expressing themselves eloquently. There have been many days where I wish that I could "ungraduate" and go back to this loving, accepting, beautiful environment.

The thing I love most about this school is that my children LOVE going to school. They are encouraged to try new things and as a result are finding new passions. What more could a parent ask for? For those of you thinking this is an "artsy" school, be assured their academic core classes are challenging, engaging and demand creative thinking. I value the sense of community this school demonstrates to each of us every day. I am proud to be a FALA mom.

FALA has it all. Simply said. We moved to Flagstaff just so our daughter could attend FALA. She is very creative and gifted in the fine arts field. We knew that FALA would allow her to expand her talents and creativity, while at the same time challenge her academically. The administration, the teachers, student body, community service projects and parent volunteer corps all make FALA the perfect package. It is a community that helps and betters the community around it.

FALA is the best school in Arizona. Students excell in the arts, as well as their core subjects. Everyone of my friends is on honor roll, and is talented in some way or another.
