As with any education, you get what you put into it. We moved here 12 years ago, with four school age children. Two have graduated, one is attending U of A, the other Hendrix. My Hendrix student has interned at HP and Amazon and is going to work at Google after he graduates. My other two will be going to Hendrix and John's Hopkins. Our children's education should not be solely the school's responsibility, but also the parents.

I've been in the area 8 years and have hired a lot of grads, I believe what the Mountain Home HS is doing is great! I do agree with the parent who said like all schools they pay too much attention to athletes. However, the schools in this town have become very health conscious, so athletics seems a natural. I've been told by graduates that healthy eating, exercise and a balanced life is what they've been taught and that the schools work individually with any student that has a weight problem, yet without embarrassment. I think that is wonderful! Do they produce adults ready to enter the workforce or continue on to college? I don't know, the examples I've seen don't care much for work. Both locally and nationwide spelling errors are atrocious, misuse of words also. Seems when we let calculators into the school and put pictures on the cash register at McDonald no one could count anymore, and I've seen a lot of that. I would have thought the invention of spell checkers would have at least stopped misspellings but, apparently not. So, I rate the school high, and the community is good as far as support & "cultural" activities, for a small town. So who is to blame? The PARENTS!

MH is lucky to have a great tax base that other schools aren't blessed with. Unfortunately, instead of using it for things that matter, like promoting STEM education, they take the same useless road as other schools and bleed it out into football. What a waste of resources. I cannot name a pro athlete that went to school with me, can you? The local robotics teams are award winning- the high school age group is a Hall of Fame team- and they receive zero support. For years they have had to borrow space in the community to work. A few years back when the school district wanted a tax increase for new buildings they heavily promoted the fact that robotics had no space and the increase (new construction) would rectify that. Guess what. Still paying for space in the community. Honestly, I still rate average since I can't name any school that is different and promotes education as the most important thing.

I feel I received an above average education at MHHS but the town it's set in is not conducive for any cultural enlightenment.
