Terrible. My stepchild left our home to live with their mother just so they could go to a new school. They went from failing to honors students after the move.

I had three children in three different levels 2nd 5th and 7th. I can say that the teachers my boys had were great! My second grader learned so much. They had a garden outside next to the classroom that the children loved to care for during the school year. They had a teacher that cared and wanted to teach them beyond the curriculum and she did a great job! My son is now in the 4th grade and can remember so much of what she taught him. I had a middle school child that took Chinese and participated in robotics! They won the regional and went to state to place 2nd! We had always been in public schools with rating of 9/10 and would have never had this awesome experience. Yes, the school went through numerous principles, but the one that came in when we left was ready to stay there and make strides in the school. Changing of principles is normal for DoDea/DoD schools they PCS just like the military members. So many people told us not to go to the school and apply to the magnet schools out in town. Which all of my boys were accepted to but we were only there for a year. I will always give the school a try and make my own opinion. If it wasn't up to par then I would have moved them. I am so happy that we went the Maxwell Elementary great things were instilled in my boys while in attendance. No, everything wasn't perfect but no school is. I was an active parent volunteering in the classrooms, book fairs ect. I eventually started substituting which was rewarding. We were there from 2015-2016.

Awful school, 4 principles since August 2012. Lost a student in 2013 and never even told her parents. The teacher explained that she must have left the girl on the playground because the girl was not paying attention. The school uses federal prisoners to maintain the grounds. in 2013 or 2014 the school allowed a prisoner inside during school hours to use the restroom. The school allows unvaccinated children to attend until they can get fully vaccinated. They allow these children to attend for a few weeks or a month until they are fully vaccinated like they should be. This goes against DoDEA and state policy. This year (2015) the school pulled children out of the second and third grade classes to make one combined class. This was after the children had already attended school for three weeks. The school did not tell the parents about the change until the Friday before they made the change on the following Monday. Also this year, 12 teachers have left which really says a lot about how the school functions. At the beginning of every school year everything is always a mess. This year they did not even publish the school supply list until the Thursday before school started. This was only after I complained to the superintendents office. Due to the frequent principal changes the teachers seem to do what they want. There are a few good teachers though such as Mrs Dunson, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Teal, Mrs. Canton, Miss Myers, etc. If your child plans to go to this school for a year or two you might be fine. If you plan to send your child here for a longer period of time you might want to reconsider. In order to go to school here you must also live on base . Base housing at Maxwell and Gunter has its own range of issues that you should be aware of .

I have been very happy with the program and staff thus far. The children do truly benefit from the smaller classroom size (only 15 in my son's class). I have been very impressed wtih my son's second grade teacher. There is a ton of communication back and forth from the teacher so that there won't be any "suprises". Because it's a school on a military base there are always students coming and going. The staff is very sensitive to this or absentee fathers who are stationed overseas. It truly is a caring staff and so far appears to be a good education.

My children love their school. You have to live on base in order to attend this school which means smaller classroom sizes. This school offers P.E, Spanish, Art, Science Lab, and Music classes that each class attends every week unlike many schools in the area which have cut those programs. Parent involvement could be better, but that is typical in most schools. The people that do support the PTO in school fundraising and activities do a amazing job with the resources they have available. The majority of the teachers are wonderful with the exception of a few. The Administrative Staff works with parents if there is ever a problem. This is a great school.
