Whitesburg has been a wonderful place for our family and a strong community builder as well!

This school, its leadership, I can't even explain it. I went to that school four all three of my middle school years. The school was like a prison. You had to go through three clearances to even check out your child. The principal, vice principals, and superintendent have made that place horrible for the students. I've always been bullied. And I've always reported it. But guess what? The authority figure, Barbara Little, did nothing about it. So I gave up. Students told me EVERY DAY FOR TWO YEARS that I should go kill myself, and I was too scared that I'd end up being punished for "lying and extortion" if I reported it, knowing that the students always denied it when confronted. I wasn't going to waste my time and end up being punished for THEIR transgressions. It hurts to hear that people wish you were dead. It hurts to know that, to the authority figure, you're just a number. You're just another person being corralled around in the same routine every single day. I had no friends. No one. My teachers were great. Those teachers: Mr. Sparks, Mrs. Mulloy, Mrs. Hickman, Mr. Redmond, Ms. Chaplin, Mrs. Norton, they MAKE that school. The authority? All they give a crap about is if you are breaking a rule. I have a 4.0 GPA, I have never even gotten detention. I'm shy and quiet. I don't misbehave in school. Those authority figures: Ms. Little, Ms. Coley-Smith, they treated me like the most horrible student in that whole school. They would stop me EVERY day for anything they could've. They ASSUMED I didn't have a pass to class. They ASSUMED my shorts were too short because I wore shorts. They ASSUMED that I was a bad student because I didn't talk a lot. I'm homeschooled now, if that tells you anything. I sincerely hope that, unless you want your child to be another number, you don't send them to that school. It'll make them miserable. The teachers were AMAZING. But everything else? I'd never send my child to a place like that: they'll just be another number. Don't do it. Don't send them there.

I have a 7th grader at Whitesburg and have been really pleased with his experience there. We have a new principal who is a great leader. Construction has just begun on our new building and we are excited about that. The new building is expected to be completed in 2015. The teachers and staff are warm and welcoming.

My daughter is a 7th grader at Whitesburg this year and since Mr. Hicks has left the school has gone downhill. I am very disappointed with how disorganized everything is from academics and athletics. I pray the new principal gets it together before this year ends, because I am seriously considering enrolling my daughter elsewhere. I've talked with several other parents who are on the same page as I.

My son is having health issues that have yet to be diagnosed. You can imagine how scary as a parent that can be. He is absent alot, and leaves early and comes in late. WHitesburg has bent over backwards to work with me as the parent to deal with his school work. They have put his health before school attendance and school policy. Teachers are working with him and the Administration has been very patient and kind.
