Typical for this time of the year, fewer people are moving into new apartments. The national average rent inched up just 0.1% ($1) in October, with apartment rates essentially flat for the past few months.<\/p>\n<h3>Renting in Massachusetts in October 2019<\/h3>\n<p>The average rent in Massachusetts cities is <strong>generally higher than the national average rent<\/strong>. The fastest growing rents in October were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/fall-river-ma\/\">Fall River<\/a>, where rental apartment\u00a0prices increased by 1.4% month over month, or $20. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/framingham-ma\/\">Framingham<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/billerica-ma\/\">Billerica apartments<\/a>\u00a0saw the second highest monthly increase, jumping by 1.1%, or $21 and $22, respectively, while the slowest rising rents were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/shrewsbury-ma\/\">Shrewsbury<\/a>, where prices decreased by 3.6% ($69) compared to September.<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_c2530c15-5ffe-4808-a57e-f0c9ffd44455\" title=\"Massachusetts - RentReport October\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?SZt\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/boston-ma\/\">Boston apartments<\/a>\u00a0are the state&#8217;s most expensive for renters, with an average rent of $3,429, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/cambridge-ma\/\">apartments in Cambridge<\/a>, where the average monthly rent is $3,191.
