Midtown is a trendy, upscale neighborhood in Atlanta<\/a>, situated between Downtown Atlanta to the south with Buckhead to the north. It is an area where you\u2019ll find lovely old Victorian-style houses, in addition to lots of high-rise office buildings and condominiums along Peachtree Street. Some consider Midtown<\/a> to be the hub of the art district of Atlanta since this is where the Fox Theater<\/a>, the\u00a0High Museum of Art<\/a>, and MODA<\/a> are all situated.<\/p>\n

Above anything else, this neighborhood offers its residents walkability. With so many great restaurants and bars in every corner of the neighborhood, getting around is really easy. The city\u2019s premier park, Piedmont Park<\/a>, is also located in Midtown and it\u2019s the perfect spot for a relaxing day out with family or friends.<\/p>\n

Where is Midtown, Atlanta?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A drive to Midtown from the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport Domestic & International Terminal will take you a little over 30 minutes. Take I-85 N from N Terminal Pkwy. At Williams St NW take exit 250 (I-75N\/I-85N) Exit 10th<\/sup> St. NW to Midtown and you\u2019ve arrived. The neighborhood is very close to the Georgia Institute of Technology<\/a>, Piedmont Park, as well as Atlanta Botanical Garden<\/a>. It’s neighbored by Old Fourth Ward to the North and Virginia Highland to the East which are just some of the other popular neighborhoods in the area.<\/p>\n

History of Midtown, Atlanta<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Parts of the area now known as Midtown were purchased by Richard Peters in 1848. He used the pine forest there for fuel for his flour mill in downtown Atlanta. Peters eventually subdivided sections of land lots that would later be sold and used for residential development. After the American Civil War, 10th<\/sup> Street became a shantytown. This led to many vagrants and burglars in the area, but once Atlanta began growing outward from the city center, mansions started sprouting up along Peachtree Street and around the 10th<\/sup> Street area. Eventually, the undesirable vagrants and thieves left and the area began to prosper.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until Colony Square, a large commercial development was built between 1969 and 1973 that the people and landscape of Midtown started shifting. During the \u201880s public transportation began to spread with the opening of a MARTA station. It was also during this time that the older properties were demolished and new commercial and residential developments began to be constructed. In the 2000s, developers shifted their attention mainly towards building many new high-rise offices, condos and mix-use developments, which included numerous retail stores. This brought in an influx of affluent residents eager to call Midtown home.<\/p>\n

Transportation in Midtown, Atlanta<\/strong><\/h3>\n

MARTA services the Midtown Atlanta area at the North Avenue, Arts Center, Midtown, MARTA stations. MARTA buses also operate on a full schedule throughout Midtown. Commuters can receive a free shuttle ride from the Arts Center MARTA station and Atlantic Station while the Tech Trolley<\/a> offers free-to-the-public daytime shuttles between Midtown MARTA station and the Georgia Tech campus.<\/p>\n

Lifestyle<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The reason why so many people are vying to live in Midtown is its walkability, green space, shopping, dining, and nightlife. It is an exciting and fun area to live in with many trendy restaurants found here. The area is considered one of the coolest places to live and play in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Try out a new type of cuisine, Korean-Mexican at Takorea. This casual laid-back restaurant is in the heart of Midtown. It offers a blend of Korean and Mexican flavors blended to create delicious and unique tacos. Many who work in the area pop by the Four Seasons Hotel lounge area for cocktails at Bar Margot after work. Bar Margot also comes alive on the weekends, with live DJs.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of people who live and work in the Midtown who are sports enthusiasts and they often end up at JR Crickets, a local sports bar. Enjoy a low-key family dining experience at a neighborhood favorite, The Nook on Piedmont Park, directly across from Piedmont Park.<\/p>\n

Midtown is also one of the areas in Atlanta that many flock to for brunch. Enjoy a delicious brunch with friends and family at Joy Cafe where you can find light menu items that taste homemade. After delighting in an art exhibit or a concert at one of the many neighborhood art venues, many choose to visit Rose & Rye, an elegantly decorated circa-1910 repurposed restaurant which offers creative cocktails and a great variety of American food.<\/p>\n

Many art enthusiasts visit the various shows and exhibits at the High Museum of Art located in Midtown on Peachtree Street. Residents of Atlanta can also visit the museum for free on the first Saturday of every month. The facility consists of retail space, communal areas, research labs, restaurants, bars, and event space.<\/p>\n

Although the cost of living in Midtown is 37% higher than the Atlanta average, it is well worth considering its closeness to town and the variety of trendy restaurants, bars, and shops. Despite median home prices averaging around $315,000, residents are able to live in a thriving metropolitan community. Apartment dwellers can expect to spend about $1,930 on average for a 1-bedroom apartment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Students in the community attend an Atlanta Public School. There is an elementary school, Springdale Park Elementary, a middle school, Inman Middle School, and a high school, Henry W. Grady High School, all serving the Midtown neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Higher learning institutions also call this part of Atlanta home. Georgia Tech, John Marshall Law School and the Savannah College of Art and Design are all situated in this community.<\/p>\n
