Nationally, average rent prices reached\u00a0<strong>$1,465<\/strong>\u00a0following a 3.2% annual increase and up 0.8% since last month\u00a0\u2014 the highest monthly jump since May 2018.\u00a0 Compared to last June, renters pay $45 more on average\u00a0according\u00a0to the latest\u00a0rent survey from <a tabindex=\"-1\" title=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yardi Matrix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of the year, apartment rents have increased by 2.6% \u2013 that\u2019s an extra $37 added to the average monthly rent in six months. Rent increases during the first half of the year are typically more accelerated, whereas during the second half of the year they\u2019re expected to slow down, a typical pattern confirmed by rent evolution in the past years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Renting in Wisconsin&#8217;s cities in June 2019<\/h3>\n<p>The average rent in Wisconsin&#8217;s largest cities is generally lower than the national average rent. The average rent in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/milwaukee-wi\/\">Milwaukee<\/a> reached $1,192 per month in June, up by 2.1% year-over-year. This translates into renters paying $25 more per month, on average, than they did a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>fastest growing rents<\/strong> in June were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/west-allis-wi\/\">West Allis<\/a>, where rental apartment prices increased by 13.5% over the year and 1.7% month-over-month. Renters here now pay $124 more per month, on average, than they did in June 2018, and $17 more than last month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/greenfield-wi\/\">Greenfield\u00a0apartment<\/a> prices saw the second-highest annual increase, jumping by 6.3%, $63 more expensive than last year.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/new-berlin-wi\/\">New Berlin<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/oak-creek-wi\/\">Oak Creek<\/a> experienced the third and fourth fastest rent increases, up by 5.9% and 5% y-o-y, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> slowest rising rents<\/strong> over the year were in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/wauwatosa-wi\/\">Wauwatosa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/sun-prairie-wi\/\">Sun Prairie<\/a>, where prices grew by 1.4% ($19) and 1.6% ($17), respectively.<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_86e060fa-3da8-46f2-b1e7-5b3b22d93037\" title=\"Wisconsin - RentReport June\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?h0T\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Of the cities analyzed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/brookfield-wi\/\">Brookfield apartments<\/a> are the state&#8217;s<strong> most expensive <\/strong>for renters, with an average rent of $1,537, followed by\u00a0apartments in Wauwatosa, where the average monthly rent is $1,374 per month. On the other hand,\u00a0<strong>the cheapest <\/strong>cities in Wisconsin to rent an apartment in are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/racine-wi\/\">Racine<\/a> ($811),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/kenosha-wi\/\">Kenosha<\/a> ($1,031) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/waukesha-wi\/\">Waukesha<\/a> ($1,039).<\/p>\n<h3>Mid-year rent changes in Wisconsin<\/h3>\n<p>Since the beginning of the year, there has been an increase in average rent in almost all of the cities in Wisconsin. <strong>The highest increase in rent<\/strong> can be seen in West Allis, where average went up by 7.5%, or $73.
