Rents averaged\u00a0<strong>$1,436<\/strong>\u00a0this April \u2014 the second month in a row to witness a 0.3% m-o-m growth. Compared to last April, renters pay $42 more on average per month following relatively flat m-o-m rent increases during the off-season.<br \/>\n<script id=\"infogram_0__\/6BbZSTMPlicXYBJB3DUA\" title=\"Conneticut - Avg Rent By City\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?Pz3\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>Renting in Connecticut&#8217;s large cities in April 2019<\/h3>\n<p>The average rent in Connecticut&#8217;s largest cities is generally <strong>higher<\/strong> than the national average rent. The fastest growing rents in April were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/new-haven-ct\/\">New Haven<\/a>, where rental apartment\u00a0prices increased by <strong>4.2%<\/strong> over the year, <strong>0.5%<\/strong> more per month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/ct\/middletown\/\">Middletown\u00a0apartments<\/a> saw the second highest annual increase, jumping by <strong>3.8%<\/strong>,<strong> $45<\/strong> more expensive than the same month last year. On the other hand, rents in <strong>Norwalk<\/strong> have decreased the most\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<strong>3.4%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Of the largest cities analyzed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/stamford-ct\/\">Stamford apartments<\/a> are the state&#8217;s most expensive for renters, with an average rent of <strong>$2,366<\/strong>, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/norwalk-ct\/\">apartments in Norwalk<\/a>, where the average monthly rent is <strong>$2,296<\/strong>. The cheapest city to rent an apartment in is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/waterbury-ct\/\">Waterbury<\/a>, with an average apartment rent of <strong>$942<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the <strong>small cities<\/strong> in Connecticut, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/ct\/groton\/\">Groton<\/a> shows a significant increase in rent over the year, of <strong>5.9%<\/strong>, the highest in its state, setting the average price at <strong>$1,268<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Methodology<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RentCafe<\/a>\u00a0is a nationwide apartment search website that enables renters to easily find apartments and houses for rent throughout the United States.<\/em><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p><em>To prepare the state rent report, we analyzed only cities with a rental stock of at least 2,000 apartments in 50+ unit buildings. To compile the national rent report, RentCafe\u2019s research team analyzed rent data across the 253 largest cities in the U.S., in large-scale apartment buildings with 50 or more units. <\/em><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p><em>Rent data was provided by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Yardi Matrix<\/a>, a business development and asset management tool for brokers, sponsors, banks and equity sources underwriting investments in the multifamily, office, industrial and self-storage sectors. Rental rate coverage is for Market Rate properties only.
