If there aren&#8217;t any on-campus housing options, or they simply want to live independently, searching for <a href=\"https:\/\/amberstudent.com\/\">an apartment off-campus<\/a> is a good starting point. For most, proximity to campus is without a doubt a deciding factor in choosing the place to spend the next academic year. <strong>But does that proximity affect the cost of rent for college students?\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nTo help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityliving.com\/\">students budget housing<\/a> expenses, we did the homework by analyzing the price of apartments located within a 1-mile radius of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\/rankings\/national-universities\">top 100 universities in the U.S. as ranked by U.S. News<\/a>. Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Yardi Matrix<\/a> rent data, we compared the average rent near the university campus to the average rent in the city where the school is located. As expected, the prices vary in both directions, and it&#8217;s not just universities that have an impact on the cost of rent in nearby apartments, but also the campus location and the desirability of the neighborhood it calls home.\r\n<h2>Universities with the Most Affordable Apartments for College Students<\/h2>\r\nThese are the universities with the most affordable rent prices within 1 mile of their main campus:\r\n<h3>1. Renting closer to the college area is an attractive option, given that these perfect apartments for college students are $506 cheaper than the city average.\r\n<h3>2. It doesn\u2019t hurt that the beautiful, historical city of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/williamsburg-city-va\/\">Williamsburg<\/a> is popular, particularily among millennials, not just for its sensible rent prices, but also for its lively spirit brought about by the large student population.\r\n<h3>3. Founded in 1865, Lehigh University lands the 53<sup>rd<\/sup> spot on U.S. News\u2019 list of best-ranked colleges in the United States.\r\n<h3>4. In the case of <strong>Loyola University Chicago<\/strong>, the $1,110 average rent within 1 mile of its main Lake Shore campus\u00a0has a lot to do with the location further from downtown, in the more affordable lakeside neighborhood of Rogers Park, on the North Side of Chicago.\r\n<h3>5. University of Florida, FL<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Average rent within 1 mile: $1,199<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Average city rent (Gainesville): $1,243<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Price difference compared to city average: -$44<\/li>\r\n \t<li>U.S. News rank: 35<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nAdd a high U.S. News rank to a lively campus life, warm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/fl\/\">Florida<\/a> weather, and a monthly rent near campus $44 below the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/gainesville-fl\/\">Gainesville<\/a> average, and it&#8217;s obvious why the home of the Gators is such an attractive choice of higher education.\r\n<h3>9.
