We all love the mood they bring, but be very careful when installing and using them. In order to prevent electric fire, you need to follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Business--Manufacturing\/Business-Education\/Business-Guidance\/Household-Electrical-Products\/Seasonal-and-Decorative-Lighting-Products\/\">guidelines<\/a> issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) that can help you determine whether your decoration is safe or not.<\/p>\n<p>There are also a few tips to help you stay safe while having great winter holiday lights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Replace your old lights if they are more than 3 years old, or if you notice any problems with wires, broken sockets or loose connections.<\/li>\n<li>Replace any missing or broken bulbs on the strand before putting it on.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid linking more than 3 strands of lights together.<\/li>\n<li>Always turn lights off when you are going to bed or out of the house. You can even unplug them if you wish.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug lights before putting them up or taking them down.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t put strands of lights on the ground. Someone may trip and thus injure themselves and\/or cause a problem with the lights.<\/li>\n<li>Use hooks or insulated staples to mount the lights. Nails or tacks may damage the cords.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Don&#8217;t burn wrapping paper in the fireplace<\/h2>\n<p>Paper can cause flash fires, so avoid burning wrapping paper in your fireplace. Always use a sturdy base to place them on so that they cannot tip. Never leave burning candles unattended even if you simply need to go to the bathroom. Don&#8217;t lit candles when you are going out and don\u2019t use them for decorating the tree.<\/p>\n<h2>Don&#8217;t leave the oven unattended<\/h2>\n<p>When cooking dinner, don&#8217;t leave the oven unattended for a long time as burned fat or charcoaled cookies, for example, can also start a fire.
