This is what sets apart financial core cities like New York from large cities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/atlanta-ga\/\">Atlanta<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/las-vegas-nv\/\">Las Vegas<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/miami-fl\/\">Miami<\/a>. But how expensive really? This is what we here at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RentCafe<\/a> set out to uncover when we compiled this study on <strong>what it costs to rent in the world&#8217;s top financial cities<\/strong> and how these urban hubs compare to each other when it comes to monthly rental costs. And we\u2019re ready to let you browse through our findings!<\/p>\n<p>But first, what do the top 30 global financial powerhouses look like? Luckily, The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Z\/Yen Group<\/a> regularly evaluates the world\u2019s largest cities by factors like competitiveness and transaction volume, so it\u2019s enough to check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.longfinance.net\/global-financial-centres-index-20\/1034-gfci-20-the-overall-rankings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Financial Centres Index<\/a> (GFCI), which they publish twice a year. For this, RentCafe&#8217;s analysts summed up the average rents for one-bedroom apartments between 600 and 999 square feet (55 to 85 square meters) in each of these 30 cities, based on housing market data from various sources. These include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yardi Matrix<\/a> in the case of U.S. cities, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.point2homes.com\/CA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Point2Homes<\/a>\u00a0for Canada and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalpropertyguide.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Property Guide<\/a> for most international markets. But while they are similar in this regard, their rent prices differ wildly. However, this is good news because it means there are a few cities that despite being among the top-performing financial centers of the world, have relatively small rents.<\/p>\n<p>The size of the tiles representing the world\u2019s top financial centers in the interactive infographic below is proportional to their respective rent prices.<strong> Tap or hover your mouse over the tiles to see the average rents in US Dollars:<\/strong><br \/>\n<script id=\"infogram_0_one_bedroom_rents_in_the_top_financial_centers_of_the_world-8\" title=\"Copy: Copy: World Financial Centers TreeMap\" src=\"\/\/e.infogr.am\/js\/dist\/embed.js?xnS\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><br \/>\nTake London for example, the worldwide leader according to the GFCI, which slips back to 20<sup>th<\/sup> place when we sort these cities by their rents. Or put it this way: There are 19 other financial centers with higher rents than London \u2014 and some would say that\u2019s a great combination!<\/p>\n<p>Two Canadian markets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/montreal-qc\/\">Montreal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/toronto-on\/\">Toronto<\/a>, also got much closer to the end of the list when ranked by their rents (dropping 14 and 13 positions, respectively). <strong>This\u00a0also means they are some pretty well-performing financial markets with cheap rents!<\/strong>\u00a0 Out of the U.S. markets, only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/chicago-il\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington, DC<\/a> find themselves in this position, moving back 9 and 3 places, respectively \u2014 another piece of good news for those attracted by their financial sectors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/vancouver-bc\/\">Vancouver<\/a>, the only other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/canada\/\">Canadian market<\/a> on this list, secured 20th place, with rents for a one-bedroom apartment averaging $1,400.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/new-york-city-ny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City<\/a> on the other hand is by far the most expensive market on the list \u2014 although its proud second place on the GFCI and the possibility to live next to Wall St. somewhat justifies paying $3,680 per month for a rental apartment here.<\/p>\n<p>London\u2019s long-time rival, Paris, is among the cities that went the farthest from their original positions on the list, when sorted by average rents \u2014 but in the other direction than London. While Paris, Geneva and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/los-angeles-ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles<\/a> were all closer to the end of the initial list, their rents for one-bedroom apartments landed them much closer to the top when ranked by housing prices. The sky-high rents in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/boston-ma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/san-francisco-ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco<\/a> also pushed them 4 positions in this unwanted direction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The following interactive table allows you to sort the cities by numerous factors.
