We see metropolitan areas and suburban communities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citylab.com\/housing\/2014\/06\/the-us-cities-that-sprawled-the-most-and-least-between-2000-and-2010\/372105\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expand day by day<\/a> before our very eyes. However, city cores demonstrated a more dramatic projection of this trend, simply by going vertical. NEW YORK CITY<\/h3>\n<p><strong>View from the Empire State Building<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Big Apple has grown a lot since the Chrysler Building lost its \u2018Tallest in the world\u2019 title to the Empire State Building. PARIS &#8211; View from Eiffel Tower<\/h3>\n<p>The oldest in our selection, this 1889 image is probably one of the first photos that\u2019s ever been shot from the top of the then-controversial structure in the heart of the French capital.
