The <a title=\"U.S. Market Update\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/rental-market\/multi-family-rents-surge-4-3-in-april-2015-led-by-west-southeast-metros\/\" target=\"_blank\">average rent has increased 4.3% Y-O-Y<\/a>, hitting $1,105 in April, and all signs point to further growth.<\/p>\n<p>Even with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/knowyouroptions.com\/news\/fannie-mae-announces-3-percent-down-payment-option-for-qualified-first-time-homebuyers\" target=\"_blank\">mortgages becoming more affordable<\/a> and the rental market getting tighter, most renters still prefer to stay put. Many of the nation\u2019s renters \u2013 whether Gen Y-ers, Gen X-ers, or Baby Boomers \u2013 choose to rent because of the flexibility and convenience that this way of life entails.<\/p>\n<h3>What Renters Want: Affordability, Lifestyle, Convenience<\/h3>\n<p>A recent <a title=\"Renter profile via Freddie Mac\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freddiemac.com\/blog\/rental_housing\/20141208_renter_profile.html\" target=\"_blank\">Freddie Mac report<\/a> shows that 61% of renters believe they will continue to rent in the next three years, although the vast majority of them (91%) view homeownership as something of which to be proud. While 39% of all renters say they expect to buy a home in the next three years, the remainder plan to continue to rent.
