For locations not covered by Yardi Matrix, C2ER rent data was used. Rents represent average advertised rent per unit, not concessions-adjusted effective rent, unless otherwise noted<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Household income data is sourced from the\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>U.S. Census Bureau<\/em><\/a><em>\u2018s most recent estimates<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-the-overall-cost-of-living-is-calculated\"><strong><em>How the overall cost of living is calculated<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The overall estimate for each city combines six spending categories: housing, utilities, transportation, groceries, healthcare and miscellaneous goods and services. Each category is weighted based on national spending averages from the Bureau of Labor Statistics\u2019 Consumer Expenditure Survey.
